Adult only reception

Adult only reception

I'm in the process of making my invites. How do I include that its an adult only reception? Forget the whole address the invite just to the adults that doesnt work in my family. My cousin ended up with 30 extra people at her wedding.

Please help with any ideas. We don't want our fam to get offended for not inviting kids but we're already 80 people over our original guest list. There would be more kids than adults if we invited everyone.

I put adult reception to follow. But if you have people that will ignore the invite address then they will ignore the Adult reception part. You will have to have your family on your side to spread the work. I used the note on the invitation and word of mouth and didnt have any problems

I saw reception cards that said 'Adult Reception' to include in the invitation.

If you're not including reception cards, you can include the wording 'Adult Reception to follow' on your invitation.

Or you could do the response cards that say 'We are reserving 'X' number of seats in your honor...then they can't bring more than you write in. HTH

I'll never understand why they insist on bringing their kids if they aren't invited.
I know this is the age old debate... do kids belong? blah blah. I'm not saying yes or no... but if it's the couples wishes to have an adult only wedding then the guests should respect that.
I was a flower girl in a wedding once... and guess what? I didn't go to the reception at all! I didn't even understand what was going on and also didn't understand that I was missing out on the reception. I was a kid and didn't know any better at the time. Did I miss not going? NOPE! Not at all!

I should think noting the Adult Reception to follow would be good enough.... and then there's the word of mouth. So I agree with the above post.

I'm trying to think of another way to get the word out there that it's an adult only reception. DO you have a website for your wedding? Can you also make note of it there? Haha maybe there is a cute little poem out there about not having kids... seems like there's cute wedding poems for everything else.

Also can you maybe do something on the RSVP card? Perhaps have them circle their number rather than free writing it in? This way they have 3 options, Regretfully Decline (or whatev that wording is), 1 person attending, or 2 people attending.

hahahaha! I'm a ballsy kinda girl!!!

Actually I had an old coworker who sent out the RSVP cards and she wrote in the number of guests on the open line. She put everyone at work to have 2 people except this one guy and he was offended! Hahahaha! That just might be worse!
I went and later regretted it becuase there was no liquor!!

You can do a couple of things... hopefully altogether your guests will get the hint. But don't count on it.

- On the outer envelopes of the invites I'm having 'Mr. and Mrs. so-and-so', then on the inner envelope it will just say 'John and Jane'. Etiquette-wise, the INNER envelope indicates exactly who is invited. Some people might overlook this, or assume the whole family is invited anyway, though.

- Some people do 'Adult Reception to Follow' on the invite. But we're not getting married at the RH, so I thought it would look weird to have 'Adult Reception' on our reception card. It took something away from the invite set, but that's JMO.

- WORD OF MOUTH If you are really unsure that people might show up with their kids, I would casually let them know via email or through a family member, that 'hey, i just wanted to let you know that our wedding reception is for adults. I realize that good babysitters are hard to come by so I wanted to let you know ahead of time.' I wouldn't get involved with hiring a babysitter or offering to find one. It's not your responsibility.

Re: Adult only reception

I am putting adult reception to follow on the invite, Then on the response card I am fill in the number where it says whether they are coming or not... so it will say

___Declines (nicer wording though )

___ 2 (or 1) accepts with pleasure

OR I might right on the response card

2 Seats have have been reserved for you!

__Declines with regret

__Accepts with pleasure

I am doing pocket folds so ON my response card it will say an adult reception will follow at yada yada yada... dinner dancing and celebrating yada yada yada

THEN I am also doing word of mouth.

If that doesnt pound in the idea that it is an adult reception I dont know what else will! lol

Re: Adult only reception

I wrote Adult Reception to follow on my invitation and again on my Reception insert (pocketfold invite). So I said it twice... also on your RSVP you can write the favor of your reply, blah blah

____ attending
____ not attending
____ this many seats have been reserved in your name and then fill in the blank with the number so they know that if it says 2 they cant bring anyone else

We thought about this for some time and finally decided on RSVP cards that said how many seats were reserved. If someone then had a question about who that included, luckily they asked.

Re: Adult only reception

Thanks for the great advise!! I've just had enough with people inviting themselves and I do not want any surprise guests at the wedding.
