Adult Reception...

Adult Reception...

I know that this is a very touchy subject for some but I do not think that children are appropriate at a formal affair.

My reception is planned to be Black Tie Optional and Adult Reception. We already had two people respond including their children. To be honest, these tow people I do not necessarily mind if they bring their children (4 total) because they are very well behaved and are close family. The tough part is... WHERE DOES IT END! I just received an email from another person saying they had no one to watch the kids and wanted to know if 'Adult Reception' applied to them Now, these children are not well behaved AT ALL. Actually, one is wild and the other is about 2. I feel bad but it's really annoying and if one brings kids, the word spreads and what about the other people with kids. I'm almost tempted to get a babysitter or two and tell people they can bring their children to place X for the reception.

I clearly don't have children but I have to say that if I did, I would love a night out without the kids and with adults. I used to nanny while I was in college and I just couldn't spend that much time with kids and I like them but....

Well, just had to vent but would love to hear everyones two cents on the topic.

Re: Adult Reception...

The only kids invited to our wedding are those in the bridal party, but luckily they are the only kids in either of our immediate families.

Any other kids are not invited, but we haven't done invitations yet so we haven't really had anyone question it. Mom and FH's parents agree, so they are happy to be the enforcers when the time comes. Any friends we have with kids have actually said they are looking forward to a night out.

What time is the wedding? Ours is a Saturday night with ceremony starting at 7 so I think it will be late for kids anyway...

I find it so funny that people see 'Adult Reception,' yet still reply with kids. I totally get why people wouldn't want to have children at their wedding, and I think the guests should respect that. I am actually have a few children at my wedding - my nieces and FH's cousins totaling 8 kids, but I'm not inviting anyone else's. I just don't want tons of kids running around. Kudos to anyone else who has no problem with that, it's just not what I want my day.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to allow children you're close to, and not others. But I'm not very good when it comes to wedding etiquette. I also think it's nice to hire a babysitter, but you have no obligation to do that. It sounds mean, but it's not your problem if they can't find a babysitter. If you want someone there so bad that you want to hire one, that's a different story.

The ceremony is at 4:30pm and CH is at 6pm. Reception will run until 12midnight.

I don't understand why people want to bring their kids to a wedding in the first place. If I had kids I would love to go out one night without them.....well I guess I really shouldn't say that since I don't have children.

I would be firm about the adult only reception. If you can afford it hire a baby sitter...that way you offer them an option if they 'can't' get a sitter.

Don't feel bad. It's YOUR wedding and if you don't want children there you DON'T want children there.

I'm with you chica...no rug rats at my affair. (no disrespect for those who are having them)

just be honest with the people--and say you only want adults there....be prepared for the negative backlash...and stand by your decision. i have been fighting with family who tried to bully me into letting them bring kids---they have 1 1/2 yrs. notice so far....don't tell me you couldn't find a baby-sitter!

however--i wanted to add that if you let SOME ppl bring kids, but deny others...it will create a much larger problem. FH and i talked about it, and realized it was ALL or NOTHING. either we let no one bring a kid, or everyone can. cause if i let this person bring their kids...the other person will be upset...and rightly so. your friends with the ill-behaved children will figure out that you purposely told them no for personal reasons. but again, your day, your way!
