Ok so my fh has a cousin coming from out of town that has kids (8 & 4) and he just told me that most likely they are bringing the little rugrats to the wedding.
we already agreed NO KIDS!!! I am fuming.
What do I do????????
I hate dealing with this. So annoying!!!!!! I can't even tell him to leave the kids home because it's their family vacation!

Re: ADULT RECEPTION - need advice
We had this issue when my FH's cousin responded 2 and 1/2 on the RSVP card. We realized that we wanted him at the wedding and that meant accepting his son because afterall he was coming in from out of town.
I realized with planning that sometimes you have to pick and choose your battles. I think my FMIL and FH's aunt was more upset over his cousin bringing his son than we were even though we wrote 'adult reception' on the invitiation!

tell him there's no space, and recommend a local babysitter!

I like this idea ... I just don't understand why people don't think about things like this ahead of time - I would never even think to ask if I could bring more people to the wedding than invited, and I sure wouldn't plan a family vacation around it!

Crashing!! Definitely this! You only have a limited number of seats and they should not have thought that they could bring their kids even though it said 'adults only'

Get a babysitter asap and have the babysitter keep them in the hotel they are staying at!

Re: ADULT RECEPTION - need advice
Ugh I'm so dreading this and was in a panic wording my invites so ppl hopefully got the idea!
If you didn't send the invite already, what I did was put their names directly on the RSVP card so they'll see its for him and his wife not & family.
If the invite was sent already I would just have FH explain that since its adult only if you let him bring his kids then you don't want to start problems with ppl wanting to bring their kids too. I had a similar situation and told my friends that family members were giving us crap already with bringing their daughter so if we let them do it it would cause my fam problems.

this! Or....tell him that due to budget and space you aren't inviting any kids to the wedding and recommend a babysitter.
I hope I dont have to deal with this! I made the cutoff at age 12 so I could invite my 2 cousins but that's it!

Re: ADULT RECEPTION - need advice
I wish it was that easy... We haven't even sent the invites yet and were already having this issue. I might not be able to do anything about this one cause like I said they are not from here and it would be so hard for them to find a babysitter. I don't have a babysitter cause I don't have kids and I wouldn't expect them to leave their kids with a stranger.
This sucks! I think I might just have to deal with it. I just don't want to make an exception for them then have my other family & friends get offended.
I can already foresee the bs when the invites go out.

Thanks for all your advice ladies.
Cristin, I'm gonna try your suggestion & write their names only. See what happens.

.
would you ask the ladies here for a babysitter recommendation?
My best friend has been a nanny for years, her bosses would give her rave reviews.. I'm sure there are also other brides who babysit/ or would tell you who their babysitter is.

I have a feeling even if you write their names only they will still try to bring the kids. So just be prepared to have to talk to them about it. Very rude for guests to bring more people than were invited! Sorry!

Re: ADULT RECEPTION - need advice
thats the problem with having OOT families who have small children, you almost have to have them, unless the kids can stay home for the wknd with other relatives.
make suggestions for babysitters, to either come to the hotel they are staying at or a close to the reception, and maybe when they get into town before the wedding see if they can arrange a meeting time so they feel comfortable with who they are leavin their kids with
remeber though, if you give into them you have to give into everyone!

Re: ADULT RECEPTION - need advice
Dont say theirs not space because it's not true just be honest and say it's an only adult reception and that's it. We also had an adult reception it caused some comotion at the beginning but it worked out fine at the end.
Tell them now that they have time to make some arrangements.

Re: ADULT RECEPTION - need advice
Does it say Adult Reception to follow? If it does just kindly tell him that and that you'll find a babysitter to go to the Hotel and watch them while they are at the Wedding and will let them know how much. I did that for my Cousins who have kids. It's not that big of a deal if you offer like that because you aren't leaving them with leave your kids home your are giving them a solution.

Re: ADULT RECEPTION - need advice
We also did not want kids at our wedding but we made an exception for OOT kids only because it is unfair for the parents. I agree that sometimes you have to pick and choose your battles and let some things slide, its less stress that way.

Alexandra - This makes the most sense... I don't want kids there, but this will have to be the one exception. I really hope others don't get mad. Oh well. YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE!!!!

Re: ADULT RECEPTION - need advice
I have a cutoff at 21years old. On the RSVP cards I put 'we have reserved 2 seats in your honor'. Etc. Good luck!
