Does anyone have advice about destination weddings? I've been engaged for 2 weeks and I'm taking it slow at the moment. My fiance really wants a wedding on the beach either in Puerto Rico or Meico. I have so many mixed emotions. I don't know what to do. We're pretty much paying for the wedding ourselves. Any advice??

Re: advice???
We're doing it!! We thought of Mexico or an island as well but decided on southwest Florida. I'm just excited to have a weekend celebration/vacation with family and friends. And it is a bit less expensive than a NY wedding if that helps! We're getting married on the beach (weather permitting!!) with the reception at a private country club. Good luck!

We're getting married 11/15/08. The invite list is pretty big for a destination wedding, but we have large families...right now it's 180. That's another reason why we chose FL...it's not too much of a hassle for people to get to and the airfare is fairly cheap. We're assuming about 120-140 will come. Have you decided if you're doing a destination wedding yet?

Re: advice???
I'm having a destination wedding in the Bahamas. We have 63 people booked, and figure we'll get another few by August. We're saving a huge amount of $ by doing it this way, and it'll be something different than every other wedding. We also picked somewhere semi-close by air (3 hour flight and 10 min from airport when they arrive), they can gamble if they don't like the beach, and it's a safe island.

Re: advice???
Hi, We always dreamed of having a destination wedding, but it seemed to be more of an inconvenience than pleasure. So.....we decided to change our wedding to a mini destination wedding instead. Our family and us are so happy with the plans now. We are getting married on the Jersey Shore at a beautiful beach resort that looks like Florida and it's only 1.5 hours away. Afterwards, we are having a bigger affair on Long Island for the rest of our friends and family.

Re: advice???
I still haven't decided. I've been in bed with the flu for about a week so I haven't thought about anything. My whole fam wants us to do it away but his mom isn't too thrilled with the idea.

Re: advice???
We're going to the Sandals because it's an all-inclusive. We've been to one in Jamaica and loved it. It's not the Four Seasons, but if I was OCD about my wedding, I'd have it here. It's going to be laid back and fun. We would have loved the Atlantis, but thinking of our immediate families, it's just too much $ to expect them to spend. I think this is why we have so many people booked- because they know what they are spending.

Re: advice???
Hi, We are having about 30 people attend our Jersey ceremony. It's basically immediate family and bridal party. We are having a bonfire rehearsal dinner the night before and ceremony on the beach the following day. , we plan on having about 135 guests. So people don't feel left out, we are showing a short video edit of the morning's ceremony before making our entrance. The place we are having our ceremony is called Ocean Place Resort. If you decide you want a closer destination wedding, you may want to check it out. Best of luck.

we got married last year on St. John and it was amazing. i wouldn't change anything about it!
The USVI is convenient because of the short trip and because it is a US territory.
