her husbands best friend got divorced recently. my friend and the ex wife were friends..
my friends dh told her not ot talk to her anymore because its awkward. they both met the ex wife thru her dh best friend.
she wants to contact the ex wife to see how shes doing. (she was 1 of her bms)
should she go behind his back? or just forget bout her? they were only friends thru their dh's..but now she feels bad.
thanks in advance

Re: advice
thats a tough situation.... i think because of the fact that they were friends through their dh's and didnt become friends through their own connection i think she should just leave it be, if her dh and that women's ex dh dont want her speakin to her it would just create problems that arent necessary in her own relationship with her dh.
Sorry its confusing with no names but hope you know what i mean. No need to make matters worse for yourself for someone that you were friendly with... im sure the other woman is getting lots of supports from her immediate friends and family and prob understands the situation herself

Re: advice
i'd contact her..but i wouldn't do it behind his back. that can cause issues and imo a little immature....i'd contact her to see how she's doing & if the dh gets pissy about it, simply say u've become friends over time and that he has to understand that too...if she was a bm i'm assuming they've become quite close. hth

Re: advice
Just my opinion- but she shouldnt go behind her husband's back- if she feels that strongly about contacting her, she should talk to her husband and tell him.
No reason that they cant stay friends with the ex-wife. We are still friendly with our best man's ex- they broke up about 5 years ago. Just not behind his back- she is risking her own marriage and I doubt thats worth it to her.
first of all...I have made many friends and so has fh in this same scenario...being that they are the gf or bf or husband/wife of the other...and if you are friends with someone for years...why should you just stop? My fh would never TELL me to do this in the first place...because he shouldnt! She needs to talk to him because not for nothing but friendships outlast love relaionships most of the time...unfortunately....I have a lot of good girlfriends now that i only met because they were dating a guy friend of mine...now if they break up i am not going to 'stop being friends' with the girl! thats crazy! Lying is also wrong...so she should tell her husband she is doing it

I wouldn't go behind his back - I would tell him that I'm contacting her becuase she's my friend and that's that. It's not for him to get in the middle of their friendship. If things get awkward or if the ex starts being inappropriate, your friend is an adult and she can take care of it or decide to end the friendship.
