Advice for the 08ers from and 06er

DON'T WAIT!!

I got engaged in January 2004 for a wedding in December 2006. I thought 'I have 3 years' but it has flown, and from being so far ahead of the game I have 11mos to go and so much undone. No matter how much time you have, start saving money NOW...I mean go into full on save mode, because it's the 'oh $40 for the movies won';t kill us' and 'but he'd really love this $100 gift's that really add up.

If you want to lose weight for the wedding, start dieting now...the time to order that dress will come sooner than you think and habits are hard to break, and alterations are expensive.

People may tell you it's too soon. IGNORE them!

ETA: Make firm decisions..the more time you have, the more time you have to second guess, be swayed by the opinions of others and just generally get caught up. Start planning now so you can do everything at YOUR pace

Ladies, I must second this! I began planning when I was 2 years out, and it flew by! I still have so much stuff to do. Also really good vendors get booked early, so if people tell you that you have time before you need to look to book something, stand your ground and look anyway.

I am really worried about my flowers. I have two years to plan but I don't even have any Ideas of what I want anything to look like. Any great suggestions?

Hi! I'm peeking on the 08 boards! I have this flower magazine that I bought from Barnes and Noble that is incredible. I had already picked my flowers but I bought it about a month ago because it's just so gorgeous and has a flower glossary of different color flowers and what season they are in. I can't remember the name of the magazine, but I can FM it to you when I get home.

We are college students as well. I graduated with my BA in December but im going for my masters now.. FH is in culinary school and will finish next summer... so focusing on school is TRYING to remain our priority. We've been really good about saving, what i suggest is open a savings account and any engagement money goes straight in there. 2nd. put a percentage of each of your paychecks in the bank, allowing yourself so much money to do things you want to do... 3rd.. save ALL change and singles.. yes singles.. you can't buy anything with singles nowadays and if they are in your pocket they disappear. We started doing this in February and we already have 90 in singles alone... Happy Planning and SAVING!!!

if people have anything to say like 'oh you have pleanty of time' i just smile and nod and say i know, but I go ahead with my planning!

I remember when I was in the high 500s, and now the 300s are creeping up on me....it will definitely fly by!

wow this is wonderful advice!!! I love it! Thank You so much. This is the only thing I have been stressing about. Is people asking me...why wait so long? Why arent you looking for a dress yet? Why why why...How about I cant freaking afford it right now lol Thats why. Where am I going to pull 30 THOUSAND dollars out of? If anyone knows where I can get 30 THOUSAND dolllllaaaz for a wedding please let me know. Its a little bit harder to plan a wedding these days. I refuse to pull from our savings to pay for our wedding. I am not touching our house money. Although its pretty hard not too sorry for the vent. But this was definatly helpful!
