Advice Needed

Advice Needed

OK, I need to pick your brains

Here's the situation. I just started a new job. I was at my old job for 4 years and things were going downhill, which is why I departed.

I recently received an email from a former colleague at my old job, asking me if there are any spots available at my new place. Iit turns out there are. She sent me her resume and I sent it to my boss and the latest is that they will be calling her in for an interview.

Here's the issue: This girl reports to one of my best friends . She's only been on the job for about 3 months. This is also the first time my friend has had the chance to supervise someone and will be instrumental in him getting promoted. If she leaves, it might reflect poorly on him as a manager and might effect his promotion and any raise he was to receive. Plus, he'll find out that she's working at my firm and will put 2 and 2 together.

Am I overanalyzing this? She's my friend too and I didn't proactively recruit her, she came to me for help. He's been my friend alot longer and I would hate for something professional effect our relationship personally.

Thoughts?

I would tell this girl to explain to people at her current job that it is not a reflection of her current supervisor.. you are doing her a favor so she should respect your friendship with this other guy

Yeah, I'll do that -- unfortunately the people at my job will draw their own conclusions no matter what is said. If it means saving money by not giving a big raise, these people will use whatever they have to
