I'm trying to figure out gifts for the parents right now. The fact of the matter is we're paying for the wedding ourselves but my mother has been great and very supportive. She doesn't have a lot of money, but has tried to contribute every possible way she can giving a few hundred dollars here and there. On the other hand, FMIL has money but will not give us a dime towards the wedding - she is even holding off on until the actual day. To top it off, she's been nothing but an absolute pain in the a$$.
Both moms are getting parent albums, but I want to give my mother a nice token of appreciation. She's been through a lot with me and I would love to get her a Lenox 'mother of the bride figurine'. I'm not into showing the same amount of appreciation to FMIL just because my mom is getting a gift. But how do I give my mom this gift at the rehearsal dinner without disrespecting FMIL?

I am having a similiar problem...if it means that much to you not to give the same amount. I would give the gifts at another time. The last thing you want to do is flare up your mother in law the night before the wedding.

Go to visit your mom with FH on a separate day and present her with the xtra gift.

Maybe you could give it to her the morning of the wedding when you are getting ready?

yes - something to think about. I certainly don't want to start things off on the wrong foot with the in-laws. thank you!

I think the best idea would be to give it to your mom at a seperate time. But also consider getting FMIL something little (like an embroidered hanky) that way if you do end up giving your mom her gift at the RD, you can present something to FMIL too and she wont feel like she was left out.

I wouldn't give the gift to yoru mother on the night of your rehersal. I would give it to her the day of the wedding right before you start to get ready.
