Advice needed - NWR

Advice needed - NWR

I just found out that a friend's father has cancer. I haven't spoken to her in almost a year, which was when I called to tell her I was engaged. When I made this phone call, her response was less than enthusiastic, she said 'Isn't that fast?' and didn't sound happy for me at all. I haven't spoken to her at all since then. We had been friends since 6th grade, and saw eachother pretty frequently through college.
I want to tell her that I am sorry about her father and want to offer support, but I don't know how to go about doing it. I feel really awkward about calling her. I thought about writing a letter, but I think thats kind of tacky. What should I do?

I would send a 'thinking of you' card, saying how you haven't seen her in a while, and you miss her! Mention that you heard about her father's illness, and that you're so sorry, and that you're there for her if she needs anything - even just a shoulder.

I'm sure she'll appreciate it.

You're a good friend

as some one who lost a parent to cancer- I can offer you some advice

any contact from a friend - wheather an email, phone call or letter is GREAT

it makes you feel less alone and that other people are thinking about it

Take it from someone who's mother just had cancer...every ounce of support is much appreciated. A simple 'I am sorry to hear...' and 'i am there if you need me...' will mean so much! Believe me, she will be very grateful knowing you are thinking about her.

I personally would not call. I would send a symapathy card with a little letter.

Definitely send her a card and let her know you are thinking of her and her dad. As the other girls have said, it will mean alot to her.

I went through something very similiar
A small gesture or a note so she knows you are thinking of her is perfect!

A card or letter is perfect because it requires nothing from her. (A phone call or visit could make her feel uncomfortable, put her on the spot to entertain you or to forcefully sound cheery...)

I would call her! You said she was a friend to you and even though you haven't spoken in awhile, your call would mean a lot to her at this time. Esp. if you tell her that you are here for her. You would be the better person for doing this, even though she was a little wierd last time you spoke.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that! I can understand your situation. Like the other girls said, I would def send a card and let her know that you're concerned and thinking about her.
