Ok..we're down here with one car. DH will drop me off in the AM, pick me up at lunch, then we drive to his job, drop him off, and then I pick him up at night.
My car is off the road in NY. We are thinking of getting a 'beater' car that DH can work on and use to go to and from work. Now he's thinking of a motorcycle....

Re: Advice needed....DH wants a motorcycle
Two of my friends were killed in separate motorcycle accidents. I am just so against them. I am sorry, I can't trust when people defend that if you drive safely on them you will be ok. My one friend drove VERY safely, but a car hit him. So my opinion is that when you get on a bike, it's a chance not worth taking.

I've told FI that I will divorce him if he ever gets a motorcycle.

I have to agree with this. My one and only accident occurred when I hit a poor guy on a motorcycle. Thank goodness we were only going about 20 mph, because it could have been very bad.

Regardless on how you feel... you can say what you say... but if he still wants one... then that should be his choice in the end. They aren't that expensive so money isn't an issue. And down in GA... i am sure the roads are a lot safer than tooling around in the city here.
Just take out a nice life insurance policy on him.
And if you are one of those girls that 'will demand against it'. Well I have something else he can get then.

Re: Advice needed....DH wants a motorcycle
I have a friend who was in a motorcycle accident. A car blew a stop sign and sent the him and the bike sliding down the road. Thankfully he is ok now but what a scare that was.
My father and brother have motorcycles and I don't worry about them, I worry about the other lunatics on the road! Maybe it's different in GA.

DJ Pill.....YOU ARE TOO FUNNY!!!
It's more of another form of transportation right now since we are sharing one car!!!! He's not a lunatic, and the roads aren't as crowded here...BUT.....
it's still a motorcycle and he can still get hurt....

The one drawback though is what will he do when its raining. If its a daily driver... it might not be a good idea unless he is an experienced rider.

Ditto!
I can't tell you how many young men are in our facility as a result of a motorcycle accident. (Most start out in the head injury unit, but ultimately end up in long-term care.) We've even had our share of passengers, mostly females. It's so sad.

Can he ride? Does he have any experience?
Granted, I am nervous about riding in NY, but I'll tell you, if I lived in a place like the one you described... roads not crowded, etc... I would ride everyday (well, except when it rains).
DH & I decided that if either one of us intends to ride on LI, that we will take the TRAMAS course. It doesn't just teach you the basics, it also teaches you how to dump a bike if you have to, how to drive defensively & rad traffic patterns & how to effectively brake, corner & even tips to help avoid injury.
I think you know your husband better than any of us & also the area you live in. If you think he can handle it & that the roads might be OK, then it is entirely up to you.

I've worked with many people with brain injuries and it is devistating to all those involved. To me, there is too much risk and too much at stake. My vote is for the 'junker' car!
