Advice on cutting costs please

Original post by Mishy626

Without getting too involved with details, all my life my parents told me they would be paying for my wedding. Unfortunately during the time that is supposed to be the happiest time of my life, my parents are going through a divorce. My mom is still telling me to plan on the budget we had discussed earlier, but I feel as though I shouldn't be doing that and feel I should find some ways to cut costs (my FH and I don't have much money saved either).

I am looking for ways to cut some of the costs down? Do I not hire a videographer and just have a friend tape the day? Do I forget the photographer and just have camera's on the tables? These are some of the suggestions I am looking for. I don't want to make a decision that I might regret in the long run, so I am hoping some of you will have advice for me. Thanks and happy planning to all.

(So far all we have booked is our wedding reception site... Fox Hollow in April of 2003)

I am already booked at the Fox Hollow, but I would still love to hear how everything goes at CrystalBrook. Good luck.. I have heard great things about the place from a neighbor who has been to a couple of weddings there, she said the food is wonderful.

Thanks again to everyone for their advice.

I am paying for most of my wedding.
I got my tiara and containers for my favors. I am having my reception at Southampton Elk's Club. They have a beautiful reception room. I went to Limo.com and got an Excursion for $450 for 3 1/2 hrs. I am getting my flowers from a wholesaler off the internet freshflowers.com. I got all these ideas from Bridal Bargains (book). I saw it on Oprah. It has saved me a bundle. Good Luck!

Time of year is also a factor. We saved a ton of money by having it on a Friday night in January. The price per person is almost half of what they charge on a Saturday night in the summer. If this sounds like something you would want to do but have already booked a date, don't fret. I am sure they would work with you. We are booked at Westbury Manor and were able to switch it date and even talk them into lowering our guarantee.

My FH & I are paying for the wedding ourselves too, so I understand how you feel.
Definately make your own centerpieces. This can save alot.
I also agree to definately get a dj. Try my friend, I probably sound like a broken record but honest, he is doing my wedding and he is great & very inexpensive.
Andy from hypnotic sounds. 917-793-4656.
Next, cut your guest list as much as you possibly can.
