Advice on DJ's and photographers

To be honest, I'm not even sure when we should start looking around for these, but I'm thinking at least a year in advance is best...

I've been hearing so many mixed reviews on both and was wondering if anybody had some recommendations? Whether it was your DJ/Photographer or you heard of great ones. I don't even know where to start! So I figured this is the best place to ask for advice! :)

I always recommend Phil from 'After Hours' over the years he has done many family parties and he is always the best..He is also a LIW vendor. I did not shop much for photographers, I booked my photos and video with Tim Ryan from 'Teasured Memories' So far I love my engagement shoot photos. He was so great to work with the day of the shoot.

it is def the right time for you to look! I have spoken with vendors that i booked over a year ago that tell me they changed around their packages and increased prices...the earlier the better!
i highly recommend thomas paul for photography - he is so incredibly talented and just a wonderful person to be around.

We booked both DJ and Photog just under a year out. We booked our RH almost exactly one year out.

When I started looking for photographers/DJs, we first checked out our RH's preferred vendors and went from there. We used Body Rock for DJ and Duet for photography (Jay's team) and I highly recommend both!

i used Variety DJ and loved them ... they're so nice and they know what they're doing! my guests was dancing the entire reception (which i was suprprised at since it was a day-time wedding)

we were only engaged for 9 months, but ended up booking all our major vendors in the first month of that ... but as others said, it really doesn't hurt to go anytime you want

It's never to early to look around. I am using MRG productions for a DJ and Lighthouse for photo. Start with your recommended vendors from your hall.

For our DJ we're using Chris from Party Connection & another MC for our wedding. I tried finding reviews of them online & couldn't find any I do know he did an awesome job at my friends wedding & was also willing to give me past brides numbers to contact for recommendations.

Photographer we're using Lighthouse Photography Studio. You get the most for your money with them for the high quality work you receive. They treat you like a friend & not just another person. They are one of my favorite vendors!! I can't ever say enough about Florio & the staff there!!

Phil from After Hours! We met with several dj companies and, for us, there was really no comparison.

My photographer is lfying in to shoot our wedding (cost of her travel is NOT additional). She flies in a couple of days before the wedding, so there's no concern that she'll be delayed and she specializes in weddings that are away from her home base JenLynne Photography

We also REALLY liked: Gina Esposito

Edited for typo

Thanks so much for all the advice!! I have a good start for some research now lol.

I keep hearing about LI Sound, so I'm probably going to start there and as for photographers...I hope they all have websites!

And yay for September 8th 2012!! We originally wanted something in April, but the RH didn't have any dates. But now I'm SO happy with September! :)

Yay weekend twin! You're the day after me!!

Not sure how much you want to spend but if you're budget is flexible for photography, then I strongly suggest Ricky Restiano. His work is amazing!!

As for DJ, we're using DJ Serg Entertainment and have been happy with him so far.

I completely agree with this...we are using Phil as our MC from After Hours as well, and he has been great to work with so far.

we used Thomas Paul--we actually had Tom as our photographer and Jackie as our 2nd
gina esposito also works for him and did our engagement pictures.
he was amazing. we should be getting pics back in the next few weeks and we're so excited!

we did not use a DJ but went with a band instead. Infinity from Franklin Wayne Music. they were awesome adn affordable for us. they had the dance floor going all night and people are still calling us telling us how great they were
