advice on dress (added pic!)

advice on dress (added pic!)

I have detailing from chest to bottom of my dress (always swore I'd never do that but hey..).
I explained to seamstress that maybe I should I order petite because I will be 5'5' or 6' with heels on my day.
She called designer and said the regular size would be fine.
Now when my dress came in and I tried on , they said it was fine.
I have nightmares but I know I am not the only bride with chest to toe detailing. Plus, I have a lot to take in at hips (A line).
How do they take it in length wise without ruining design? What does hem to hollow mean?

Please ease my bad dreams!

I have detailing from chest to bottom also... I don't know how they do it, but I figured I'd at least let you know you're not the only one dealing with this! I'll also be 5'5 or 6 with heels on.

Not positive of exactly how they do it, but when they take the dress in they have a way of doing it so they don't ruin the design/detailing of the dress...They do something similar when they have to alter the length of the dress. They are able to shorten the dress to a certain point before they have to deal with hurting the details on the dress, there is always a bit of leeway in a dress design to alter it...I think what hem to hollow means is the stiches of the hem to the bottom of the hem, not positive though if thats right or not...
Try not to stress it!! Have faith in your alterations person and have faith the dress designer accounted for alterations when they designed your dress!!

My dress is almost all detailing, but there is some blank area. I'm getting a hollow to hem because even with my heels, I'll only be 5'2'.

Hollow to hem means that the store should have measured you from your 'hollow' (basically the point where your collar bone and throat meet) to your hem (bottom of dress). They send that measurement into the designer and basically the designer cuts the material to that measurement when they make the dress. THEN they add all of the detailing and actually make the dress. So when the dress comes in, it shouldn't have to be hemmed at all.

Did they do a hollow to hem on you? If so, it should be fine and you shouldn't have had to order a petite. Like I said, I'm really short, but since they did a hollow to hem on me, I didn't order a petite.

I can help with this. A lot of designers make the hem detachable..... so they take off the hem, alter your dress and put the hem back on.

I ASKED my seamstress about this for two reasons:

1. Like every other bride on the planet I'm on a diet
2. I'll only be 5'5' with heels.

I did order the petite length though. My seamstress thought it was a good idea.

In fact, I was between two dresses, and I didn't go with the one because they flat out told me it would be DIFFICULT to alter if a lot changed, and it would cost me a lot of money.

I don't remember if they did hollow to hem BUT she called to make sure. When I told her I would be 5'5' with heels, she said oh I have 8 inches of non design to play with and that should be fine.

Here is pic at 1st fitting. I had heels on.

I agree. It looks like there's plenty of un-detailed dress that they can take off at the bottom and the detailing looks like it stops just about where your foot is.

Gorgeous dress by the way!

looks like you'll be fine according to the pics. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

No worries...there is plenty of room at the bottom without detailing!

Re: advice on dress (added pic!)

whenever there is detailing on the bottom of the dress, heve a hollow to hem measurement done and have it cut to your height at the factory... this is what had done on mine -- cost me $100 to do it but this is the only alts i have to pay for
