i have been engaged for a few months and didnt have a engagement party. My friend is telling me now that my date and place are picked out that i need to send out 'save the date' cards. I hope i dont sound out of touch but what are they? Did any of you girls do this? If so, how do i do this? Im so glad i found this website! Everyone is so helpfull. Thanks again.

you can just send out some kind of notification saying save the date for your wedding..they have ones that rhyme and stuff..we did not do it..I think they are a huge waste of paper, money etc...the people invited to your wedding are mostly close with you and will hear from word of mouth..so if you did not know what they were to begin with..i would not worry about sending them out...but it is all up to you of course!!

We didn't bother with them either; figured everyone would hear by word of mouth, as Michelle said.

I agree with Michelle or Springbride. But I have heard of people sending them out if their wedding date was on a holiday weekend so people knew not to make other plans.
good luck!

We sent them and none of our guest found them to be a waste, they were very appreciative. We sent them to only those coming from out of town (85% of our guests are not on LI)! It included the date, place, and time with all of the hotel information enclosed. Yes, most of the guests knew when we were getting married, but the save the dates were like a reminder to make their flight and hotel arrangements. We sent them in May for our Oct 6th wedding. I found very nice ones on Paperstyle.com. Guests loved them!

Only if....

it's on a holiday weekend, as was previously mentioned, or if you have a lot of people who will be traveling from out of town. Otherwise, word of mouth works fine.

We had over 90 guests invited, traveling from as far as Alaska and Arizona, so we wanted to let them know the dates so they could plan vacation time, and we also sent the hotel information with the dates.

save the date

I sent out an email to family and friends that will be travelling to our wedding. My mother also wants to send an engagement announcment/save the date combo card (w/hotel info)to some family members that don't know yet.
-We have lot of people traveling for the wedding (from Eurpoe and all over the US) so we wanted to give them a lot of notice.
