I wanted some advice as I begin to go see places...keep in mind i stink at negotiating & hate confrontation...lol
I absolutely hate flowers & do not want one at my wedding..for the venues that include the floral centerpieces is it rude to ask for a price reduction because I will be providing (if allowed) an alternative?

Re: Advice please
Were you planning on doing candles or something along those lines as a centerpiece? My venue is one that includes centerpieces for our reception room, but they didn't necessarily have to be actual flowers. The credit for the centerpieces comes off the price of their in-house floral designer who worked really well with us- and if we didn't want to do flowers, that was perfectly fine with him.

Re: Advice please
I have a few ideas other than flowers..for me I would prefer the candles but wasn't sure how to handle and most people on here seem to be on their game so I figured I would ask...Thanks

I don't really think you would have a problem just using the credit from the RH for candles from the florist instead of flowers. They should be providing you with the centerpieces that you want, and there is still a cost for candles anyway. Good luck with your florist searching!!

FH and I are thinking about booking with Lombardis on the Bay. The room there is very elegant and classy with no carpets (weird but i love that lol) and the chandelier in the ballroom has mock candles in it. If your looking to do cps with candles I would definately look into LOB. I'm actually working with Albina who works out of Villa Lombardis. Shes a Lombardi herself and shes super nice and very easy to talk to. She offered to throw in an extra carving station with corned beef and a chafing dish with mashed potatoes cuz FH was complaining about all the italian food

I also stink at negotiating & hate confrontation, but that is where the FH comes in. Can he help you negotiate? Don't be afraid to ask for what you want. Most RHs are so willing to work with you.

Check out Floral Terrace. I think the ballroom would look very pretty with candles.

We are doing candles at TimberPoint. Have candelabras and everything. The only thing they ask is that there is something under the candles to catch the wax, or we use dripless which is easy too

Absolutely Ask! It doesn't hurt. Let me know where you look... I'm starting the process now too! Good luck

There are so many negotiating styles & it's OK that you're not cool with the hard @$$ negotiating style. I don't like it too!
Here is how I would approach the negotiation:
1. Tell them your problem and ask what they would do if they were in your shoes: explain how, although you think the centerpieces are nice, you don't want them & what they think you should do?
2. Be willing to make other concessions: If the venue is unwilling to reduce the price for centerpieces, is there another service that you'd like that they can provide for an equivalent value? I did this at my venue, which provided the cake but decided we want to do pie instead - we got an ice luge out of it!
3. Be confident: You negotiate more than you realize. Any time you ask someone else to do the dishes, take out the trash, or hand over the remote you are negotiating. You can continue to build up your confidence by being aware of your negotiating style and practicing it in many ways.
