Advice to Job Hunters

Advice to Job Hunters

Ok..I am doing my own recruiting for an opening in my department (HR is too busy to help) and am sitting her going thru 100's of responses that I have rec'd. It is so boring that's why I keep drifting to this site (hehe).

The ad clearly states include a cover letter and salary requirements. When an ad says that, do it! In my situation, anyone who does not, gets deleted. I have so many resumes to read, I automatically elimate those that do not follow directions. A cover letter shows me that you are literate (a requirement for this job) and the salary requirements let's me know if we are on the same page (even if it is just a salary range). In this job market you need to do things to stand out (in a professional way..I have plenty that stand out in an unprofessional way and those get deleted too). When applying to an ad, read and it and follow any direction it may give.

Just something I am seeing a lot of and figured I would pass on my advice!

Great Advice!

I used the same techniques to eliminate applicants when I did recruiting at my company.

I would also suggest one very important item: spell check!!!
I have seen resumes with obvious errors in spelling. Had they used spell check, it would have been caught. Also have your resume proofread. After reading something so many times I begin to see double so I always pass a project to someone else and sometimes they catch something.

on the spelling subject I must share this..one applicant said he could do the job flawlessly and spelled flawlessly wrong! hehe
