I AM GETTING MARRIED IN OCTOBER AND ME AND MY FI STILL WANT TO HAVE AN ENGAGEMENT PARTY. IS IT TOO LATE TO HAVE ONE? IF NOT HOW LATE CAN I HAVE ONE? IS MARCH ALRIGHT TO HAVE THE PARTY?

Re: ?????ADVISE PLEASE???
traditionally you should have the party close to when youve gotten engaged
but i think you can manage one if youre still within 6 months of your engagement date
if its later than that, people will think youre fishing for gifts or $

I agree with the first part. I really think that an eparty should happen within a few months of the engagement.

Re: ?????ADVISE PLEASE???
Personally, we are having a small, intimate 'gathering' (just BP and parents), at FMIL's house, However, I think it is too late.
We have already asked our BP, so I really don't see the point, but FI insists on it, so we are having something really small.
If I were you I would keep it small, this way no one has to go through an E-Party, bridal shower and wedding so close together...JMHO, I hope you don't mind

March sounds okay wouldn't push it further than that. Wedding will be 7 months away, plus you have stuff like bridal shower, and rehearsal dinner too. But March still sounds good.
My fiancee and I have been engaged over a year already but we are still having one because he is a Marine and we haven't had the time to have one yet. If people don't like it they don't have to come.
lol that is my vent and JMO!

Re: ?????ADVISE PLEASE???
The reason why we waited was that we did not have enough money to rent a hall until now. My aunt owns a restaurant and she is renovating. Right now the space seats 70 and after its going to seat 140. My guest list for the Eng. Party is about 120. She said all we had to pay was the food and drinks. She is willing to close the business for us. In another words i will be saving big bucks.

Honestly I think it is too late. Do you plan on also having a shower? I would do one or the other since it is close to your date.

I agree....Say you have a Engagement Party in March, then I'm sure someone will give you a Bridal Shower say in July or August then your wedding in October. I think its alot to ask of your guests to do so much in 1 year.
I got engaged at the end of November 2002 and got married November 1. 2003 and we did not have an engagement party. We didn't do it because of the 'rules' but DH felt it was like we were just asking for a gift.
