Affordable but pretty cakes??!!

any past brides or current brides know of an affordable bakery that makes nice cakes?

i was quote $1250 for a 3 tier cake with fondant!!

and 910 for a 3 tier cake with 3 gumpaste bows/ribbons and buttercream frosting not fondant

is this a normal price?

I need someone affordable, reputable and most importantly, Delicious! to do my wedding cake

any suggestions??

150 I believe, since that is what I told them my guest count was.

I found a company, that is not a formal bakery.

she is much more afforable, however I am worried that I may 'get what I pay for' and the cake will not be nice.

I only know one person who used her and she has said nothing but great things.

I dont know I feel like Id be more comfortable going with a well known reputable vendor.

To save on costs - you can do a smaller cake - to serve aprox 100-125 and then a sheet cake with the same filling.

Did you try Dortoni or La Bonne Boulangerie *sp?*

We are doing this with a very small cake (probably two tiers to serve 44 people). It will definitely save money. From quotes I have gotten, $8 a slice doesn't seem that bad, does it include delivery?

We did a 5 tier all fondant cake with lace design, all ivory. For 130 guests (top layer to be saved) we paid *** from Dortoni (our cake was not included with our venue). Cakes are not cheap, especially wedding cakes! La Bonne Boulangerie quoted us *** for the same cake, but 4 tier. Price around and feel free to haggle a little!

HOWEVER, we did have an issue with Dortoni. FM me for details.

La Bonne Boulangerie and Dortoni's are owned by the same familiy.

I've never had an issue with either, however, there is a bride that just posted her issues with LBB

My FSIL is a baker, and makes amazing cakes. She does it from home (had a shop at one time, but didn't take off) and even make a cake for the Regis & Kelly show. I wouldn't discount a baker just because everyone doesn't use them. Try to see other cakes this person has made, and do a tasting. If she does good work she will def have pictures of them.
