Affordable House Thread Spinoff
Ok, so I tried for as long as I could to not use this board to vent my frustrations over the nonaffordable LI housing issue, but the last thread got me all riled up again.
I saw a beautiful brand new house on mlsli.com. It was in the Half Hollow Hills School District and on the Deer Park/Dix Hills border. I called to inquire about it and the guy tells me that the house is no longer for sale. He claims there is a legal dispute about it because the house started being built a few years ago, and due to some permit problems, the builders had to stop, and recently start again. Well, apparently, within that time frame, the real estate prices rose and the builders wanted more money for the job and refused to build until the buyer agreed to this .... (whatever, the whole thing is shady..) but anyway, he convinces us to come in to see other properties in the same price range (mid to high 400s...) I drive around Dix Hills, fall inlove with the area, call him back, and agree.
This guy does NOT ask us what we are looking for. I tell him (without being asked) that my number one priority is that the school is in Half Hollow Hills. He ignores me and proceeds to take me to Ghetto Number One in Deer Park ... in Deer Park School District. I'm annoyed. Then he says, 'don't worry. ... i'll take you to dix hills now....you'll love the houses.' I relax. He proceeds to take me to 'Dix Hills' --- like 4 seconds from Wyandanch ... the selling point being, 'it's walking distance to the Wyandanch train station...' These places....seriously.....were SCARY! Falling apart, completely ghettofied. The last place was so bad that I said, 'We're wasting each other's time ... I want nothing to do with this place anymore...take me back to the office now!'
I'm discouraged and disgusted. How can I possibly feel poor when I'm willing to spend half a million dollars on a house? Why should I have to live in the ghetto for this price? WHAA!
Thanks for 'listening' ..... (if you've made it this far...)
I feel better. LOL!
