I am looking to get a somewhat less traditional/simple wedding dress (ie, nothing poofy, no train) and i am on a tight budget. Anyone know if any good places to look in LI or NYC to find a dress under $1000- ideally closer to $500?

I am using Bridal Elegance. Almost every dress I looked at in a different bridal store was much cheaper at Bridal elegance. I know many people who used this store (Phylis is the owner and shes amazing). I got a Maggie dress and it was about 300 less then at the Bridal Suite. (Under $800 with alterations!)

Hi There! I found a site called houseofbrides.com and there was another one too, I'll have to find it for you. But they sell many of the designers you will find in all of the stores. The dress I found at Estelle's (a P.C. Mary's gown) was $899 and it was on houseofbrides.com for $519!! It's absolutely beautiful!! Check them out for sure!! You can try on the gowns at some of the bridal shops and order it from houseofbrides...good luck!
And I'll find that other site for you too!

BRidal Gardens in Bethpage is going out of business, so they are selling everything off the racks, for like half off, it's worth checking them out. And they are really nice there.

Yes, the bm dress in white is a great idea. Dessy.com has some really pretty bridsmaids dresses that I swear I would mistake for wedding dresses.
ITA - RK has a TON of gorgeous dresses at amazing prices.

Definitely go to RK bridal. It is located on 39th street between 8th and 9th and the prices are really good. I got my bridesmaids dresses there for 150 plus 65 max in alterations. The girls who want to get it altered some place else only have to pay 110 but they also have to measure themselves. Also, I just brought my dress there yesterday for $770. It is really a good price but there are even better prices and you can definately find something under 500. I refused to look over 1000 and I had plenty of choices.
