After Church Mass, Receiving Line???

Hi Ladies,

Our Church Mass in Port Washington is at 2:30pm. I figure it will go until 3:15 or so.

We have to be at Old Westbury Gardens by 4:30pm (leave Church by 4pm) and I want to have time to take his family and my family photos (small families, just one bro each) at Church before we and the bridal party go to OWG. Exiting the Church and waiting for everyone to come out seems like the same amount of time of just us doing a receiving line, which we weren't going to do. Perhaps we just skip heading out of Church or doing a receiving line - and somehow take photos - but how to??

What we did is that my sister and BIL were the only ones on the receiving line (no BM, MOH, BP stood there). We told the photographer to come over and say we have to take the church pictures in a somewhat loud voice and we were all ushered back in to take pictures and then outside for the petal toss. That way no one on the line argues with the photographer and you are left in the clear to take your pictures.

I argued about a receiving line up until right before I walked down the aisle.

To shorten things, our receiving line only had us and our parents. Our photographer and bridal party made sure to usher us out as soon as possible so as to not eat up too much time.

Our full mass was started at 3:30 and ended at about 5:00 with the receiving line. We then took pics outside the church. I believe we were done with everything, mass, receiving line and pics by 5:30. We didn't take too many pics outside the church; just family pics.

HTH.

This is all good to hear/know. I am still unsure about having a line and I'm worried. Our mass starts (supposedly) at 3pm, and there is a 5pm vigil mass, so we need to be out of there by then. But we are also going to be fighting for outside natural light. I'm so afraid that the receiving line would take forever and we'll be late getting outside for photos.

Our coctail hour at the RH starts at 630 but is a 55 minute drive from our church, which means people would need to be pulling away from the church no later than 530 really.

maybe i'm just making this into too much of a mess and i'm over thinking it. what do you all think?

edited for grammar.

I never even thought about this, it just kinda naturally happened!

DH and I walked down the aisle and our priest met us at the end of the aisle where we signed the marriage license.

Then all our guests were behind us set to leave the church so we just kinda fell into a receiving line, just DH and I and we greeted each guest as they left.

Our bridal party stood sorta lined up in the vestibule but they weren't really part of the receiving line at all. It went by very quickly! Then we took 5 minutes worth of pics inside the church, just DH and I. And then we exited the church to the petal toss and took a group picture outside.
