So we're thinking about having an after party somewhere. NOt sure where yet; maybe at the hotel; maybe at a lounge/bar.
Is it common to host the bar at the afterparty; or is it ok to do a cash bar? Just curions what is common.
We're already paying for the reception & dinner w/full bar. And to save $$ are doing a daytime event; but if we spend another $40pp on an open bar at that after party then we might as well just booked an evening event KWIM?
Just trying to see what others are dong/have done already.

oh a cash bar is fine. people know you just paid for a wedding. I've been to lots of after parties and every one was a cash bar and no one complained or expected otherwise.

We rented a party bus that stayed in the parking lot of the hotel. We told everyone to Bring their own beer for this. It worked out perfectly! Everyone brought something and threw it in the bar on the bus. It was great b/c our guests were going back and forth from the hotel. People were leaving the bus to take a nap and returned for some more fun. The bus came with a Butler!! and they played music for us. we danced the night away. We had the bus for 6 hours but called it a night @ 5am! If you want the info for the bus FM me.
The best part was watching the guys dance on the 'stripper pole'! lol
I have to say the part for DH and I started when we stepped foot on that bus! We had a blast and no one can stop talking about it. We're planning my 30th this month and they are all asking if it's going to be on the bus!

FH and I are having an open bar, after party. A lot of friends are family are traveling so it only seemed appropraite for it to be open.
That said, it I don't think a cash bar is terrible!

Ca$h bar! We are having the reception at a place that has a bar/tavern on premesis so that is where thr after party is. They can drink all they want for free at the reception...after that they are pretty much on their own! We are going to give the bar tender some money to start off with though for some of the first round.

Cash bar is totally fine. Actually I think most people expect that it would be cash bar, unless you tell them otherwise beforehand.

Thanks ladies!! I feel more comfortable with doing a cash bar. At first i thought it would look bad having them pay for their own drinks. But it's probably going to be at a lounge-maybe i'll do what Cantwait2wed said and start the bar off to cover the 1st round; but after that let the guests pay for their own.
And maybe after drinking for 4 hours prior; they might not drink as heavy for the 3 hours at the lounge.

we are doing a cash bar after the wedding back at the hotel. People understand that we have just paid for the wedding. Plus... all after parties I have attended have had a cash bar!

We did a cash bar and no one minded. In fact, they were all buying DH and I drinks!
