After Party-Which would you rather

FH and I are planning an after party for the wedding since it ends at 5:30. Most of our friends live in the city so we were going to do something in Astoria, Queens so people can take the train home afterwards. The drive to Queens from WM will prob be an hour. I'm afraid that might deter some people from going if the cab ride is too expensive. Also, my boss had mentioned that the party feel would be gone if the after party is so far from WM.

Do you think its better to do a bar in LI and let people figure out getting home from there? That means some people will have to take the cab twice. One to the bar and then one to the train when they are going home.

If you were a guest living in the city, which would you rather do?

Personally I would do it closer to WM, this way they party feels like its still going and then people can figure out the rest. Or maybe they will book a hotel nearby

The Ravel hotel has a beautiful view of the city and is right in Long Island City by Astoria.. we were going to get married there actually but decided the travel was too far for our guests because we have a lot of family that lives in East Hampton

I totally agree. If I lived in the city I would probably just get a hotel nearby though.

WM is pretty close to Westbury, Carle Place, Mineola, and East Williston train stations, which have plenty of bars near them to choose from. Perhaps providing transportation to the after party would help?

I would do a place closer to the reception hall. If I lived in the city I would just stay at a local hotel for the night.

thanks everyone...i just sent this link to FH and this weekend we will be on the hunt for a bar by WM! I'm so glad I asked before booking.

I have thought about providing transportation and ideally I would just like a regular van that would fit everyone. Does anyone know of a company? I don't want a party bus or anything bc I prob won't need it for more than 30 mins.

All Island is a cab company that goes out of the Mineola train station, which isn't far from WM. Nothing fancy, just basic cabs. My family uses DeLux out of Port Washington, and they've always been great.

What about a hotel bar nearby? This way it's easy for anyone who wants to stay over to do so and if they're not staying, it's still a bar!

I would but I don't think people will be staying at a hotel bc everyone lives so close by. Also, FH and I wouldn't even be able to do brunch the next day bc we have my very traditional chinese wedding the next day.

Hmm, are you able to have it AT the bar at Westbury Manor? Then maybe you could get a shuttle to the train station later in the night?

My BM told me that WM wouldn't be able to accommodate an after party. This would have been the most ideal situation.

Try Camelot. I booked two vans to shuttle my guests and I actually got to keep my limo bus as one of the vans :)
