ahh.... had to spend the whole day at jury duty...

and of course with my luck, my name was called into the room and my name was also picked out of the raffle machine to be jurer number 6. i had to answer and hours worth of questions in front of 24 people.. but it turns out that because i am a nurse, they excused me at the end cause of my medical background and i knew too much and the other jurers would ask me questions and i would be biased when the doctors toom the stand... i am happy now, but i was still there sitting in a freezing room for 8 hours

Last week I got the summons to call on the 19th in Queens county which is during my three weeks off after summer school chock full of appointments. I postponed my service to November. Guess who is moving out of Queens county Sept 1!!!! BRILLIANT. At least if they call on me to serve in Nassau, I dont have to sit in Jamaica Queens. Garden City is so much closer to a decent mall.

haha, thats great... i went to the mall today on my lunch break. i had prosponed this jury duty 3 times and i had to go on the 4th or id be arrested..lol

No go for FI... anyone who tried to get out of jury duty was immediately shipped off to Long Island City to serve. This judge was letting no one off the hook. At least FI goes in later and leaves earlier than normal.

The weird thing is as I sit here thinking about it, that I actually do not mind serving on a jury. The timing was just very bad this go around. I am moving in 3 weeks and will gladly serve in Nassau County when I am called. I am very proud to be a citizen of a country that allows us to be judged by our peers. I am fortunate that my agency pays us to serve but I would still serve regardless. What really bothers me is when people dodge jury duty constantly yet they would want smart, well-versed people on a jury on a case that involved themselves.

Warning: Rant below

What also bothers me are men who refuse to register for the selective service at the age of 18 for fear of a future draft. Hmmm. As the proud daughter of a WW2 veteran, it saddens me that the liberties my father fought to defend would be for nothing if future generations were not willing to do the same. Pity.
