Ahh so frustrated...Hotel block! Please help

Hey guys....i'm so frustrated with this whole hotel block business. My wedding is not for awhile but I want to start making save the dates with hotel info considering ALL of FH's family and friends is OOT and most of my friends are as well!

The main problem is this is everyone's 1st time to NY, it's going to be over New Years, and I want a place that isn't in the middle of nowhere since most don't have cars. (they are flying in)

My wedding is in Woodbury. Any suggestions? The motels on the jericho strip are OK but i'm not sure they are awesome for a 4night trip that most ppl will be making. I'd also love a place somewhat near a LIRR so that ppl can get into NYC. ANY HELP or suggestions at all would be marvelous. Hilton Garden Inn Melville looks nice and gave us a great deal but there is nothing really around there and would need to all rent cars to get around.

thanks in advance and for reading all this!

I did my block at the new Hampton Inn on Jericho Turnpike in Westbury. They gave us a really good rate. FM me for details.

Well... this is tough b/c you're right...Nobody is going to want to spend their first trip to NY in Woodbury (at least not all four nights).

What about blocking rooms at a hotel in NYC and paying for a bus to take them to the wedding? Manhattan hotels will probably be expensive over New Years however. And you don't want to put them in a shady area of Queens or Brooklyn.

Otherwise, don't bother looking for hotels in Woodbury b/c I don't think Woodbury has a LIRR station. Maybe try to find something in the Nassau/Queens border since it will be more congested and there's more of a chance of finding a hotel near the LIRR.

Look in Mineola, Garden City, New Hyde Park, Carle Place and Franklin Square.

I think the closest station to Woodbury is Syosset. In the area there is the Inn at Fox Hollow, Best Western Executive inn.

Going a little further away you have the Homewood inn and suites, Hilton Garden Inn in plainview, but its not near a train station.

The Inn at Fox HOllow is beautiful, but may run around 160+ a night, with a breakfast buffet daily and dinner buffet Sunday through Thursday, which may help with the costs.

However, none of them are right near a train station. I am not sure of any in the area that are very close to a train.

i would suggest fox hollow for these reasons:

-i *think* they have van shuttle service for guests.. they may do airport pickup and drive them to a 'town' (this cuts down on need to rent car)
-during the week they have free dinner for guests (cuts down on neeeed to leave hotel and spend more $$$ to eat)
-every morning they serve breakfast

maybe you can negotiate a really good rate with them since its so far in advance and you are blocking for 4 nights!

hth!
good luck

Thanks everyone for your responses... I'll def look into Fox Hollow even though it's a bit pricey. Any in Garden City, Carle Place, Westbury that you recommend?

I've heard good things about La Quinta...and so-so about Holiday Inn and Hilton Garden Inn in Westbury?? any thoughts?

la quinta has a shuttle too. so that is good

homewood suites also does dinner/breakfast, but i dont think they have a shuttle.

i would focus more on the ammenities of the hotel (shuttle and food) than location...the van can get ppl to a train if they want to go to a city.

Are you planning to have a shuttle from the hotel to your wedding?

Even in Garden City/Mineola/Westbury I dont know of any hotels that are that close to a train station, except maybe the Red Roof Inn in Westbury. Guests may need to rent a car or take a taxi if they want to go to the train station.

The only hotel I have experience with in Westbury is the Econo Lodge, and its not that great, unfortunately I dont have any advice on the others. I know there used to be a hotel that a former job always used, but I think it changed owners and chains, and they dont use it as much anymore, on Stewart avenue.

How about the Sheraton in Plainview? or the Holiday Inn?

Definitely call La Quinta and speak to Tyleen. She does the block there and is awesome. The Carle Place and Westbury stations are close by. It is do-able if they had to walk, a little long but it can be done. They can catch the train to the city etc. Roosevelt Field is right there plus many other stores.

They gave us a rate of $159 a night for reg room and $259 for bridal suite. The Bridal suite(family suite as it is called) is huge especially if u plan on getting ready w bm that day of. Also you are not responsible for any rooms that go empty. They get released a month before. All u need to reserve is a cc that they keep on file and don't charge until u check out. You can pay another way too if u want at check out. I would def give them my cc info if u plan to book your bridal suite now so they can save it for you otherwise the first person who gives cc # gets it. If u book 15 rooms u get free shuttle (only 2x- there and back once each way though). $100 each way for extra trips. If u don't need shuttle they will give u $150 off bridal suite. I really only see OOT family (who rent a car when they visit) staying there but held more rooms just in case so i'm not worried about the shuttle. They will take their rental to RH. Hope this helps and FM me if u have any other questions. U will love it.

The Garden City Hotel is across the street from a train into Manhattan- takes about 40 minutes.

Worth a shot to call and ask- maybe you can get a reasonable rate!
