AHHH! Dress Stress!

AHHH! Dress Stress!

So, I was reading through the receipt from my dress (that is only half paid for) and I see in small print payment in full due within 30 days of receipt of dress. Now, when I put the money down on it, the saleswoman told me that I could actually come back 'whenever' and make payments on it if I want because the wedding was so far away. Yet, I felt that I should call just to make sure. And, no, that isn't the case. The lady that I spoke to said no, I have to pay the full balance by the end of this month. ACK! I have less than a week and I was not prepared (financially and I have no place to store it yet!). I am very upset. I was told I had time!

Edited b/c I am an idiot & didn't read it right.....OK, I also had to pay for the dress before I took it from the store, but not within 30 days of it arriving at the store. Can they keep it in storage for you? I mean, with the wedding so far away, can't they make any accommodations??

They can store it there, but I would prefer they didn't. I understand that they would want it paid in full before I take it home, but I wasn't planning on taking it home yet. It's 30 days from the date of the receipt reguardless if it stays there or not!
I am just really upset because I was told differently at the store. I was told that I could make small payments within the next few months. Now I have to take a large sum of money out of my savings that I really can not afford to do (we just put money down on the hall last week too). I am just really upset. I wish I was not a student. I hate having to worry about money like this.

You are getting married in about 2 years and your dress is already in???

I think that you can try to negotiate with them-- especially if they hold onto your dress...

But as a rule- always read the fine print.

Definitely talk to the owner/manager of the store. Generally bride's do not get their dresses as early as you did. That kind of stuff is usually on ther eas a precaution for them. Most places, especially small stores, are willing to make exceptions for brides in different situations.
It certainly can't hurt to call them and ask!.
If not, will they take a credit card? You could always pay that off over time (get a CC that has low or no % until it is payed off)

Re: AHHH! Dress Stress!

The story went like this. My bridesmaid (who also getting married the same year) and I went to try on dresses at a few places. I literally fell in love with the dress...it is 'the one'. I had some mixed feelings about buying early but when my mom saw it on me she even said it was perfect! My sister (another 2006 bride) had bought hers already, so we did not see any reason not to buy it if it was the one I loved! Plus (as most bridal salons do) we were told it could be discontinued. Even people on LIW said that it was okay to buy early if it is 'the one'. The price was right so we put down a deposit.

I realize a lot of people think I am doing a lot of things early, but I really only took care of the hall and my dress. The hall: because we want to reserve the date, it has a special significance to us, and the dress: because it was the only one that I truely (automatic) fell in love with. While I am in school I am not doing any wedding planning (AT ALL. I am a full time student and I take full credit loads), so technically, I only really have 7 months to plan.

I am sorry for the long vent, but I am getting frustrated.
