AIMERLINY’s 9/12 Shower Review – VERY LONG!
I kind of figured my shower was sometime in the month of September, but I didn’t know the exact date. I had a few guesses but I just wasn’t sure. Not wanting to show up to my own shower in sweats, I took up a motto – “Dressing Pretty in September.” FH thought I was being retarded, but starting the first weekend after Labor Day, I dressed pretty to everything, no matter where we were going. Luckily, my shower was that weekend.
The ploy to get me to the shower was that we were going to help my best friend paint her new apartment, but we were meeting for lunch first. So I packed painting clothes in a bag, and “dressed pretty” to go paint. FH thought I was crazy, but I was sticking to my motto. Thank god I did.
My shower was held on Sunday September 12th at Sergio’s on Merrick Road in Massapequa. We had a private room to fit all 40 something guests and ALL the gifts. Even though I was suspicious, I was still overwhelmed when I walked into the room to all our friends and family standing up, taking pictures and yelling “Surprise!”
Turns out my two best friends who are my Maid of Honor and Bridesmaid threw the shower for me with the help of my Aunt (foster Mother of the Bride)! Everything was decorated beautifully! They had balloons in my colors, faux rose petals sprinkled on all the tables, and short glass bowl vases filled with water and fake ice with floating burgundy rose candles. They also decorated my chair with one of my registry items – burgundy velvet chair cover – plus a tulle bow and flowers.
The gift table was weighed down with all the gifts, and there were even gifts UNDER the table and in another room. They had decorated the gift table with a lace skirt and white lights. My wishing well was a gorgeous white chest – perfect for storing blankets or turning into a toy chest for a future child. This was also decorated with beautiful lace.
Sergio’s was great – lunch was minestrone soup, salad, and then choice of like 6 different entrée’s. Everyone said the food was delicious and it was nice to have such a large selection. I had the Chicken Francese which was delicious. Desert was a yummy fresh whipped cream cake with chocolate pudding filling from the Stop & Shop Bakery. Sergio’s also provided Italian cookies and biscotti.
Once I was done eating, it was a rush to get all the presents opened. We got lots of beautiful gifts. FH and I are overwhelmed with the generosity of our friends and family. Some of the gifts that stand out in our mind are:
My Aunt did a holiday theme with poems and boxes decorated for each holiday and then the gift fit the theme – such as Autumn Mugs for Thanksgiving, a Lenox Christmas platter, a love poem book for Valentine’s day, champagne for New Years Eve, Bailey’s Irish Crème for St. Patrick’s Day, Easter Bunny Candles, Picnic set for Independence Day, and then Gift Certificates to Omaha Steaks for our 1 year anniversary.
My other Aunt and cousin got us a gift basket filled with wine accessories and wine bottles with labels that read: 1st Month Anniversary, 1st Dinner Party, After 1st Fight, 1st Candlelit Dinner, etc.
My other Aunt bought me my beautiful white Penoir set PLUS a porn video and a Kama Sutra game.
My bridal party got us lots of different gifts together and separately. The also did a set of gift bags that had a matching poem. Each gift bag was labeled differently with stuff like “For when he is feeling creative…” “…naughty” “For when he won’t listen…” “For when he’s out of town…” – each bag was filled with stuff like handcuffs, body paints, blindfolds, a vibrator, rainbow condoms, etc. I think you guys get the idea. Needless to say it was VERY embarrassing, but also VERY funny.
Our favorite gift from our bridal party was a custom made ceramic Scrabble board picture (we are avid players) that had all kinds of wedding and relationship type words! This was awesome and such a personal and thoughtful gift!
At the end my friends had taken all the bows and made not only a hat (which they used a real cheap hat as the base – much better than a paper plate) AND a bikini out of bows, ribbon and paper plates!
Anyway, this is way too long – but I just wanted to share! My shower was a great time and I had so much fun and I can’t thank my bridal party, family and friends enough!
