Airline prices

OK so my brother and I decided that we might get my Mom and Step-dad tickets to AZ for Christmas for them to go out in May. So, this morning I try to go look at prices. Southwest is not booking yet for that far in advance but for their last possible dates that they are booking for-the fare would be $759 for the 2 round trip. (My brother's fare for the wedding to come home was just over $400 round trip). So then I go to check American Airlines and the price is.........................................

$4258 round trip for the 2 of them!!!

What is American Airlines smoking it cost us less to go to St. Lucia. This BTW is for a random week in May- no holidays no special event!! OH and BTW it is NOT even a direct flight!!

Editted because I cannot spell this early on a Sunday!

Re: Airline prices

Thanks all I definitely will. I was just looking at the 2 that we normally deal with and trying to find out if it we could afford to do it! When I saw the $4k I was in shock. I checked Orbitz and I got $415 a piece round trip. Which is pretty good.

What a shame though I have always preferred American but I can see why with prices like that, that the no frills carriers are knocking them down by their own fault!

$4k I could go to Europe a couple of times!!!

Prices to AZ are crazy right now. We ususally go visit family during the holidays, and have been tracking prices for the last few months. They had been hovering around the $400 mark for the longest time, then dipped for a few days to about $350 - still higher than what we usually pay, but we thought it was the best we'd see so we jumped on it. A few days later it went up to about $480.

Since you have some time you might want to keep checking daily to see what you find. We also tried calling the airlines direct and they couldn't even offer the low internet fares and told us that sometimes they don't have the same deals to offer.

By the way, Southwest seems to have very few of the low fare seats available. We ran into the same situation where they were not selling that far in advance, and the day we went on that they were available, the cheap seats were already gone.

American doesn't always have prices like that .. ive always used them and manage to find cheap fares to california. maybe that flight is just very full so they're charging more for any last minute fillers. that is crazy though .. 4 thousand!

definitely try the other non-airline websites .. i'm sure you'll find something better.

Re: Airline prices

Try Expedia.com
I just did a quick search. I put in for flight only, leaving LaGuardia, arriving Tuscon, for 5/2/2003 arrival and 5/9/03 departure.

They list American Airlines as being $400 rt per person. They also list United, Northwest, and Delta and prices are under $500 pp.

Then I switched the AZ airport to Phoenix, switched the departure date to later that month and got even better prices (around $300 and up).

Sometimes it's better to go to sites like Expedia (I prefer them) and travelocity because they show better prices than the airline websites.

Try it and let us know! $4K is a ridiculous price.
