Re: alaskan cruise excursions?

I went to Alaska several years ago on Royal Carribean. I liked it so much DH and I are going this August, but we are going on Norwegian.

As far as excusions, the plus about going through RCL (or any cruise directly) is that they will wait for you in case the excusion is running behind and if there is a problem you can take it up with them. When I went they had a combo flight and float that was $$$$, but it was so worth it. You flew from Skagway to Haines over the feords and then went on a great raft float down the chilkat and chilkoot rivers. The river run through a bald egale preserve. It was a great experience. In Juneau I went on a hike along the Mendenhall Glacier. If you don't like to hike then I don't suggedt this, but if you do it was amazing to walk along side this huge glacier!! In Ketchikan I went kayaking. It was a great way to see the city because it is built along the river.

Hope this helps. Have a great time!!!!

you should check cruisecritic.com they have a lot of message boards and you can get a lot of reviews and info about excursions and stuff

we've were thinking of maybe taking an alaskan cruise in august so i'd love to hear feedback as well. are the passengers a lot older on alaskan cruises? i don't really know many younger people who have been on one so im just curious.

Yes, the passengers do tend to be older. I was 25 when I went the first time and the average age was probably late 40's early 50's. I actually enjoyed that because on so many other crusies it is just young drunk people running around. It is a much more peaceful vibe and a truly breathtaking experience.

Thanks ladies, it sounds like it's really just an amazing landscape out there. Thanks for the input. It's probably safest to go thorugh the cruise line for excursions. I'll post any good info i get!

Hi! My DH and I are going on an Alaskan Cruise on the Celebrity cruise line leaving July 3rd! I saw you are getting married that day so, I don't think I'd be back in time to let you know how it went. So far we booked the Glacier Dogsled Adventure via Helicopter in Juneau, The Alaska Undersea Tour in Ketchikan and the Sea Otter and Wildlife Quest in Sitka. Are you leaving right away? Good luck and have fun! We will have to compare notes when you return!

We are waiting a few days. Spending the night in Vancouver on the 9th and beginning our cruise on the 10th. Have fun! We'll definitely compare trips :)
