Alcohol at showers...

My friends and I feel like we are professional shower throwers! We've all been in each other's bridal parties, and for showers, have always made wine available. Do you think providing alcohol (wine) is necessary (I drink, but not really wine anyway). Thanks...

Re: Alcohol at showers...

I think alcohol is fine. Most of the showes I've been to have had a punch bowl.

Re: Alcohol at showers...

I had two showers. We had punch at one and we had mixed drinks at the other. I would do whatever you feel comfortable with.

Re: Alcohol at showers...

It depends on the kind of shower:

For your more traditional kind with a meal, wine is nice.

If its more like a brunch, punch is more appropriate.

If its a theme shower, choose a drink that works (i.e. luau theme gets a mai-tai, retro theme gets martinis, etc..)

I don't think alcohol is really necessary at any but its a nice touch if it adds to the whole presentation.

Re: Alcohol at showers...

Actually what I mean is do you think it is necessary to have....do you think people will miss it if it's not there (I am really talking about my own shower - I do not want my bms to have to pay a lot of money if they don't have to). I mean, if they want alcohol, that's fine with me, but would you, as a shower guest be unhappy or feel 'cheated' if it wasn't included in your meal? Thanks so much for the input...

Re: Alcohol at showers...

I agree with Stef --- having a signature drink to complement the theme of the shower is definitely a nice touch!

Re: Alcohol at showers...

I specifically requested mimosas for my shower

If there's any alcohol, it's usually white wine and spritzers, or something light....

Re: Alcohol at showers...

I think mimosas and punch are enough, but I did go to a wine tasting shower...it was a cool idea, but in order to taste wines without getting drunk...its tough...

Re: Alcohol at showers...

I think having alcohol is nice but not a requirement. Also depends on the time of day. A brunch might have a champagne punch instead of wine.

Re: Alcohol at showers...

I think you can go either way, alcohol or no alcohol. It's a daytime event so wine is nice, I think mixed drinks may be too much for daytime, unless its mimosas

Re: Alcohol at showers...

My shower was at a hall, we had beer, wine, and soda. And also a punch. Everybody seemed to be happy with that and I know that it didnt cost them that much. I will say that nobody really drank the beer, so I dont think they even needed to offer it.

Re: Alcohol at showers...

I do not think that people will miss it if it is not there but I also think it is nice to have if you can. But definaltely not a big deal if you don't have it.

Re: Alcohol at showers...

If there isn't booze at mine -- I'm leaving....

Just kidding

Seriously - altho9ugh I'm be bumming if they only served soft drinks --> I agree that offering a champagne punch and wine is plenty. And for those who really want to drink -- assuming the event is being held in a restaurant -- it's nice to have the option of a cash bar.

Re: Alcohol at showers...

Well what I usually do if the guests are mostly non-drinkers ask for a bar tab. It makes it more pratical (cheaper ) And for the most part places will let you do it. That's my 2 cents!!
