Alfred Sung D304 - The Dress with Ruffles

Has anyone worn this dress in a wedding or is having their own bridesmaids wear it? One of my co-workers is wearing it for a wedding this summer and she was quoted $275 to get alterations done. That's more than 2 times what she paid for the dress! I'm just wondering if this is the norm or if she needs to find a new seamstress.

Re: Alfred Sung D304 - The Dress with Ruffles

To pay $200+ for alterations is absolutely absurd! They should be capped at $75 for BM dresses. She should run...run far far away!

CaMacho's BM's are wearing the dresses in black.

Re: Alfred Sung D304 - The Dress with Ruffles

$200 for alterations sounds crazy! I've only been in 2 weddings but alterations were capped at $60 at both places. Could that price be the complete cost of the dress plus alterations and tax??

Re: Alfred Sung D304 - The Dress with Ruffles

Thanks everyone. We kind of figured that $275 was ridiculous. The seamstress told her it was because she would have to take up each of the individual ruffles to hem the dress. She's looking for a new seamstress today.

Re: Alfred Sung D304 - The Dress with Ruffles

i wore that dress in my friend's wedding. my alterations were $35 i believe from phyllis at gownfind.

the dress was not flattering on any of us. we were all different sizes and some of us looked like a wrapped present.

it is a pain to alter because of the ruffles, but i thought $35 was a very fair amount and the alterations were great. it was just the dress that's not.

Thanks for the offer Jean. I think she's just taking it to the person that another BM is going to. If that doesn't work out I'll definitely FM you.

I'm still floored by the gaul of the seamstress trying to charge $275 for alterations! That's so ridiculous.

I'm sorry but that's BS. My BM dresses were very similar (Lazaro) and there were no problems altering them. You're not supposed to take up each ruffle. If the dress it too long, they can just remove the bottom layers. That seamstress either doesn't know what she's doing or is trying to rip your friend off.

You are welcome---that IS insane but then again my wedding dress alterations cost me almost as much as the dress for minimal work (I should have taken it elsewhere but stayed with the shop that I loved). Feel free to FM me if you need suggestions!
