All girls using a band instead of a DJ....

DO you think it's rude to have the band play the cd's of all the important songs that you've chosen (first dance, father dance, mother dance...) instead of having them play them??

I am torn because I am really crazy about the songs that I like and I know that they wont sound the same if the band plays them.. although the band is AWESOME..... I just don't want to be rude ya know?? What do you guys think??

TIA!!

I am using Body Heat as well! I thought about the same thing. I think it is kind of rude, but who cares? It is your wedding, so do what you want. I might do that too. FH and I love Dave Matthews, so any song of his played by anyone else is not the same.

I kinda think it is rude. We had a band and sounded fantastic. Our wedding song is a Billy Joel song that is a little unique and they nailed it. Honestly, if you are going to have them play CD's for all of those songs, you may as well just get a DJ.

if you have a good band sometimes they can sing and it sounds like its the 'actual' singer! I was amazed at my sisters band and even mine when we went to the showcase! But my cuz who had a band their song was At Last..Eda James and they played a CD. Nobody seemed to think it was rude!

I kinda think that it's a little strange... i wouldn't say rude, but if you are giving them CDs to play, maybe you should have gotten a DJ instead?
people might be like, why isn't the band playing? people like to hear live music.

many bands are so good, they sound like the real artist anyway.... but if you're really set on it, you're paying them and easier for them so i am sure theywon't mind. i would just make sure they bring the right equipment so that can be done.

before i booked my band, i had them sing all of the 'important ' songs that i wanted to hear

if they are that good, you will like how they sing them - JMO

i do think it is kind of rude - sorry

Don't be sorry!! That's why I asked..

I am so neurotic about stuff sometimes....
I just want everything to be perfect ya know?
But I do think that it might be seen as rude also.
I think I will just have the band play the songs.

Thank You!!!

i definatley dont think its rude, to say that if u want them to play a cd you might as well booked a dj is alittle insane !!! We have a band & for our first dance we are having them use the cd of the song, even though they are incrediblly talented, that doenst mean anything . Then again our first dance is by elvis, no one can do elvis like elvis,,

but to ans your ? , i certainally dont think its rude

I think you and I feel the same whay about it. I think it may be seen as rude but who cares?? If I was playing a lot of Dave like you, I agree...noone sound like Dave! So I would use the CD's... I think we may use a Billy Joel song for our first dance....and for my dad I was thinking of 'You raise me up' by Josh Groban...nobody sounds like him but I'm sure they will do it well..

I am going to let them play my songs.

Body Heat is AWESOME though!!!!

Thanks so much for your advice everyone!

If i am hiring a band..i am going to have them sing our songs that we chose for those special dances....some people like the original artists version and want those played. I dont see anything wrong with that if that is what you want..

My band told me if there was a certain song that I wanted played on CD...it was ok and they are set up as a DJ if i wanted a song to play....

so its all about personal choice..

since we are paying $$$$$$ dollars for the band...I am having them sing it...also the lead singer is a good friend of FH's so we want him to sing it

I think it's more interesting for the guests to hear a band's rendition of the song.
