All-Inclusive or Not?

All-Inclusive or Not?

Just looking for any opinions on this. Is it really worth it to pay more for an all-inclusive package that covers meals and drinks? Or would it be better to pay less when booking our hotel and just pay for our meals and drinks separately? It's tempting to go all-inclusive, but I'm starting to think that we might get tired of always having to eat at our hotel and might end up paying to eat at other locations anyway. I'm currently considering some really great hotels that don't offer the all-inclusive option and some so-so hotels that are all-inclusive. I'm just not sure what's better! Any suggestions?

it depends where youre looking to go. i go to punta cana yearly and if it wasnt all inclusive, i would not go. outside of the resorts there isnt much a city or town and i dont think its the safest place for you to go wondering around. but as for places like aruba, its much better to go without the all inclusive since theres so much going on outside the resorts.

i would resort the area youre looking to go to, and check trip advisor. but if youre going anywhere in the dominican republic, believe me youll want the all inclusive. and most all inclusives have a huge variety and resturaunts to choose from, so you wont be bored.

I agree with the above saying that you need to take into account where you're going. I've heard from so many people for example that if you go to aruba, there are sooo many great restaurants that all-inclusive is a waste. but many other places its the opposite.

Me and fh went to cancun last year and did all-inclusive and loved it. you don't have to carry around money; you just swipe a card whenever you want a drink or a snack at any time!

Fh's only request with our honeymoon is that it be all-inclusive. So we booked couples swept away in jamaica. they have 5 or 6 restaurants on site which is great cuz you really can't get bored with the food. And i heard the food is great at this chain. just do some research like on tripadvisor.com and those reviews will tell you if the all-inclusive at a resort is worth it. HTH

It sounds like from what you are saying that AI might not be worth it for you. If you think you will be heading off the resort a lot, then you should probably not do an AI.

It depends on where you're going and how much the price difference is between AI and not. We are going to St. Kitts and the price difference was nearly $1500 and that is not worth it for us. We are not big drinkers, and we know we spend approx $100 on dinners. If the price difference was like, $700 for a week, we prob would've done it. It really depends on you two.

we're trying to pick a hotel in either Cancun or Riviera Maya. It's tempting to pick from some of the non-AI hotels that are 5 stars for less money than some 3 or 4 star AI hotels. We're just not sure about eating at restaurants outside the hotels in Mexico. That's one of the reasons we're considering AI. And we don't know how much it would actually cost to eat out at decent restaurants in the area, so it's tough to determine if we'd actually be saving money by not booking an AI package. Maybe it's just me, but planning a vacation can be so confusing!
Thanks for your input though ladies!

If you want to go to Cancun, I highly recommend Cancun Palace and def. go all inclusive. The food is delicious and the drinks are not watered down. I LOVED IT THERE!!!

honestly it depends where u go...REALLY look into where u're staying. We stayed at the Sandals Regency in St. Lucia & i absolutely loved loved LOVED it. It's the newest & the largest.. there was a total of 8 restaurants so there was huge variety. i absolutely loved it...there's nothing like not having to worry about a penny while ur on vacay...u spend what u WANT - not what u HAVE too. I wrote in another post, that even if i couldn't decide between two entrees, they'd bring me both! but like i said - look into where u're staying of course! good luck

Re: All-Inclusive or Not?

If you stay in Riviera Maya your hotel may be isolated and all inclusive may be the only choice.
What hotels are you looking at??? Cancun would be the only place that I would suggest not doing all inclusive because its easy to eat off resort.... Rivieria Maya is very spread out and would be harder to find places to eat close to resort....

Honestly all inclusive is such a great concept down there - I go down to Cancun/Riv Maya and Punta Cana a lot and I am now totally spoiled to the all inclusive concept. The food is usually good to great depending on where you stay and the drinks are the best part.... whatever you want whenever you want.... I like not having to worry about money when I'm on vacation either, once you're there the only money I spend is usualy on souveniours and tips for the hard workers!

When I have traveled to the Caribbean the only places that I have stayed were at all inclusives. I have to tell you...at just about all of them I loved the food and the drinks...there was one that I stayed at in Punta Cana and there was somthing like 9 restaurants to eat from...I would highly recommend it!

Re: All-Inclusive or Not?

thanks for your input, ladies!! We decided to book an all-inclusive in Riviera Maya (the Excellence Riviera Cancun) and we're so excited about it!!! As far as the all-inclusive deal goes, we'll have unlimited access to 8 different restaurants and 24 hour room service, so I'm not worried about what we'll eat!
