It so happens that the best color on me for eyeshadow and eyeliner is purple -- BUT......I am allergic! Anyone have this problem? No other color bothers me -- I'm fine with blue, black, brown, grey, etc.) But if I wear any purple, my eyes blow up, get pus in them (ewwwww) and itchy.
I'll have to try Almay or something. Anyone have any luck with them or are there other brands I could try??

i've never heard of that before! i guess it's the dye to change the color. hmmm....

that's odd. i did develop an allergy (swollen eyelids) to nail polish after 6 years of getting them done once a week. i switched to almay and it helped. fast forward a couple of years and i'm not allergic to nail polish again!
i would def try almay and i'd also try blending pink and light blue to try to get a purplish affect.

I bought the Almay new color trio in Purple. It works fine on my eyes (and looks good too!) I also bought the eyeliner, and I am kinda sensitive. I've never heard of that before. Good luck!

YES! A girl at my office had this problem with Clinique which is supposed to be hypoalergenic. Recently she started using almay- the color match stuff- and hasn't had any problems.
ETA- She was allergic only to purple also.

Almay's eye makeup is the best for me - no reaction at all - and it's safe with my contacts. I was allergic to Clinique who was supposed to be great for sensitive people. I think you should try all the different shades of purple that are out there - you will find one that you can wear (although, maybe not, I mean, I'm allergic to all red foods - you could be allergic to all purple make-up)
Do you have any lipstick allergies? I get a sore throat from all lipsticks I've tried, except for all M.A.C. lipglass, but it get stuck in my hair. I'm looking for recommendations.

ahh, thank you!! I'm glad I'm not the only one. What is the color match thing????
I have really sensitive eyes and remember being told to stay away from any eye makeup in all shades of purple. It must be something in the dye. Weird, but seemingly true.

Yeah. The almay colors are nice. They suggest purple for brown eyes, and pink for blue (I think?)... It works nicely, the colors compliment your eyes. It comes with a base color, a highlight, and a shadow.

I have heard of color allergies before. It was only within the past few years or so that they brought back red m and ms because of the red dye scare so anything is possible. You may be allergic to the raw material that makes up those colors. FH's sister is a chemist for Estee Lauder. I'll ask her about it.
