Towards the end of last week her asthma kicked in and as usual, she refused to go to the hospital. Monday (FHs birthday) it got really bad and she still refused going to the hospital. My whole family had a huge fight over it because my Dad feels that if she wants to die to be with my grandfather, and she wants to do it at home, then she should be able to have that. I came home and was printing programs. I kept telling myself I would stop and go to bed, but I just kept going. A little after 3 my sister calls and tells me my grandmother is not responding. Thanks god I was awake. My sister said she stopped breathing, but by the time I got there she was breathing. She wouldn't respond at all though. She couldn't grab my hand. She couldn't open her eyes. She was drooling and gasping for air. I felt like it was the end. When we got to the hospital they put us in a consultation room, which is never a good thing. But since this post is long enough, I'll get to the point that she is now in ICU but doing much better. She came around. They said her lungs are not pushing out enough CO2, so the high levels made her unresponsive. She's in isolation so we have to wear gowns, gloves, and masks when we visit. It scares her so much.
Our wedding is Friday. Please say prayers that she will continue to recover. They said if she continues on this path they may be able to move her to a regular room tomorrow. I am hoping I'll be able to visit her before the wedding in my dress and give her her corsage to wear for the day. All she talks about is the wedding. My grandmother helped raise me. I'd be lost without her.

Re: Almost lost my grandmother the other night
OMG! I'm sorry to hear she's not doing well, but glad she's doing a little better.
If she helped raise you then I don't think she'll miss your wedding.

Although its horrible that she's sick, its wonderful that she is doing better. The fact that you can see her in your dress before the wedding will mean the world to her, and she will have something to look forward to. It will be OK.

Re: Almost lost my grandmother the other night
I am so glad to hear that she is doing better!!! My Grandma and I are just as close. She helped raise me also because my Mom was a single Mom that worked 3 jobs to support her 3 daughters so my Grandma had us all of the time. She is 85 now and about 7 years ago she went through h e l l and back. We are so glad she is better now but she has fallen twice in the last 2 weeks. She is really starting to get shaky and unsteady. Luckily when she fell both times she didn't hurt anything major. She did crack a rib the first time and whack her leg the second time but thankfully no broken hip or anything like that. I pray every night that she will stay strong and not get sick before my wedding. I don't know what I would do if she couldn't attend my wedding... so I completely understand how you are feeling. If she can't make it to the wedding it would be wonderful if you could stop at the hospital in your wedding dress first so she could see you. She would carry that in her heart forever!!!! She is in my thoughts and prayers!!!! Wishing her a speedy recovery!!!
