Almost made it through this week

Almost made it through this week

Well, it's Friday and I've almost made it through the whole week being a 'working mom'. I still cry every morning when I leave my little Cub, but I know she's in good hands between my mother, MIL and Joe's grandmother (Nanny). It just breaks my heart to leave her when she's smiling away at me!

As for work, I still have my head up my a$$ and don't know what the heck I'm doing (or supposed to do). I just stare at her picture all day (and sneak on here, of course ).

For all of you BTDT working moms, when does it start to get better, if it ever does? Some of my friends have told me that it starts to get better after a couple of weeks, but I can't imagine that. Then again, some of them are working not because they HAVE to, but because they WANT to! Not me, I don't want to be here AT ALL. Yeah, I missed my friends here, but I'd still see them even if I wasn't here. Unfortunately, I HAVE to come back because if we ever want a house (which Joe is itching for, me I could care less), we need both paychecks. Plus, everyone is under my benefits because his stink. Oh and then there's the other added bonus of the money factor! Loved getting those paychecks at home and having to do nothing to receive them! Not that I was home twiddling my thumbs, either!

I just can't believe that my time off flew as fast as it did. There were days when I couldn't tell you what I did -- and mind you I was up 20 out of 24 hours a day and the next thing I know, Joe is walking through the door and I was like 'where did my day go?' But it was all worth it.!!

Now I have the stress of her Christening -- which has been a fiasco from the get-go and hardly anybody is RSVPing (as usual, all family) and it's in 2 weeks. But I don't care, if nobody calls me, then they're going down as a NO and frig 'em all!

Then you add Christmas shopping in -- how in the heLL am I going to get that done when I only have weekends and half of the weekends in Dec are filled w/parties? Welcome to the real world, huh?

Thanks for letting me have my pity party today. I think because I'm a bit sleep deprived, that I'm a bit blue today. Gianna was very good the beginning of the week -- I had to wake her up at 6:50AM on Monday so that I could feed her before I left -- this after she slept ALL NIGHT!! Then on Tuesday, I woke her at 6:30 and she had slept all night then too. Then Wed, she was up at 3:45, was getting spoiled by the all-nighters and wasn't expecting that! Then Thurs, she got up at 3AM and then this morning she was up at 2:30AM and then again at 5:30 !! Add in the fact that I was at work all day everyday and that equals up to me being totally exhausted today!!

Ok, I'll stop babbling now... I also need to go get more coffee!!!

i definitely have no experience in this department. yet. but my gut tells me it gets better. once you are back in the groove of work the days will fly by and you'll find yourself back with your bambina daily before you know it. it's so much better than the worries you'd have to endure if your financial situation was difficult. Really. I mean- just think of all the things you'll be able to do for her by sacrificing the time now. and you have good care fo her.

dont' expect too much from yourself. i mean - i still feel guilty about leaving my puppy all day! let alone my baby!!!! you are among many many working mommies that i admire!

It DOES get better, I promise. I was home all summer with Lyndsey (almost 5 months) and it was definitely hard to go back to teaching...but now that I am back into the routine, things have been much easier. It's great that you have your MIL watching Gianna! My DH watches my peanut all day. I think that working during the day just makes you appreciate your time spent with your daughter even more. And remember, it's quality, not quantity, that counts.

As far as the christening fiasco goes...I don't know if you remember, but I went through the SAME exact thing, with relatives not RSVPing. I actually ended up cancelling the whole party, and we just went out to a nice dinner with our immediate families. Less stress that way! Good luck though, it will all work out!

Deb, I think I'm the only other FULL time working Mom on this board with our kids being so close in age.

Mia is 17weeks (4 months tomorrow) and I've been back to work since she was 6 weeks old and yes it does $uck, but it gets better. Some days are worse because she is getting big so fast and it really does feel like you are missing it.

I HAVE to be here because of the benefits as well, hubby doesn't have them (self-employed) but I am scratching and clawing at a way for me to stay home and I am determined to do it.

Mia's christening was this past Sunday and it turned out great and yes I planned the whole thing while working and it turned out great. I am here as a fellow working Mom and neighbor for support and I'm here if you ever need me.

Re: Almost made it through this week

Thank you, I needed to hear this. I'm sitting here now crying because I really don't want to be here at all right now and everything is going wrong (the fax didn't work, I couldn't even remember the damN number, nor anything else for that matter).

So I thank you all very much for being such great friends and the suppor that I need!!!

Melissa, I do remember your big fiasco! At first we were going to do a big party, but of course when we realized how much it was going to cost (and I had almost 200 people, 60 of which were children), Joe almost had a stroke and then we decided to do JUST the immediate families, but that was only 25 people, and Joe wanted 'more' -- so we invited the aunts & uncles and 77 people invited later, I've only gotten all of 20 something people calling!!!! It's so annoying! And it's still going to cost a small fortune just to have dinner! It's sick the prices they're asking, especially in Queens. There's nothing less then $30pp and that's just bare basic menu WITHOUT soda included!!!!!

Camille, where did you have her party? And what church did you go to? Joe wanted me to go to St. Stan's (where he went to school until he was booted out ), but they only do it in the morning and my sister would never get here from Jersey that early, so I'm baptizing her in my church (where I got married), Our Lady of Fatima in Jackson Heights. Her dinner is going to be at Casa Blanca. We went to Mikasa Warehouse Sale last week for the favors and I sat up all night Sat wrapping them. Now I have to go shopping for something to wear. Not looking forward to that because I still look like a big fat poopananny!!!

Thank you for making me feel better!!!

My mother just called me and said Gianna is doing good, won't close her big pretty eyes to take a nap because her big cousin Nicholas just got there! He of course has no interest in her whatsoever because she 'doesn't do nothing' as he says!!!

Re: Almost made it through this week

I promise you it gets better! It took me about 2 and a half to 3 months before I was back to normal and not crying at least once a day but now that my hormones are back in tact and I've got a routine down it is much easier. I have actually found that I treasure every moment I have with my baby even more so now than before b/c there is less time with him. The one thing that did change for me permantly though, is my priorities. Where before, my career was the most important thing in my mind (other than my DH of course) and the paychecks meant everything, now my son is FAR more important than anything and I make sure to leave work at a respectable hour so I have my evenings with him when I used to work til 7 or 8 each night (yes, long long days), now I try and leave no later than 5:30. Anyway, enough babbling, promise you it gets easier with time and soon enough you will get into a routine that you might not love, but it will work for you. Good luck and ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND to the fullest!

Deb, we looked at Casa Blanca!! that is too funny, the church was RA on Woodhaven and we winded up having her party at Sarabella's...the food was fantastic..people are still raving about the place and the price...well you would have to FM me, you would never believe it.

Let me know how Casa Blanca turns out, I would love to go there for dinner.

Re: Almost made it through this week

Deb I wanted to lend you some support. This spring I will be among this group of working moms and honestly, I don't look forward to it at all. It's weird because in my early 20's I always that I would want to work after a baby. Now, I hate the idea. But Jenny (in my situation anyway) is right, the financial strain that me NOT working would cause would be a lot for us to handle- I don't care how many coupons I clip it doesn't pay the mortgage and taxes on our home.
I have heard the first few weeks are really hard but that after 2-3 months life gets back into a routine again= plus you are still getting up a lot at night which just adds to the stress and difficulty.
We are all hear to give you a hand!!!

Deb I haven't had this experience yet, but I might one day...so, I just want to lend my support! You are DOING GREAT so far, and you just need to allow yourself some time to adjust. I am sure it is so difficult leaving Gianna, but you are right...I am sure it does bring you some comfort knowing she is with family that loves her!
