I've been hearing alot lately (on this board and the news) about people going to get their marriage liscences only to find out they are 'already married' creepy...
We bump into one of FH's groomsmen today and he tells us it JUST happened to one of his friends last week...he warned us to 'go and find out early' How exactly would you go about finding something like this out?? Im all freaked out now.

You can apply for your license early...I believe they expire after a certain amount of time.....but you can always get another one I t hink

Exactly. You find out by asking FI.
As for the marriage license - you can get it no more than 60 days from your wedding date.

It's an identity theft thing... There have been a LOT of reports about it lately. There was recently a huge article in the paper about it!

One of the girls on our 07 board just had this happen - it was a total shocker to her and FH and she said it was def a case of identity theft

it turns out it was identity theft! someone must have stole her identity and gotten 'married' under that name. so that is how these ppl are finding out they are 'already' married when they go and get the license.
that is such a scary thought--cause its up to YOU to verify that you are NOT the person that got married. that poor girl on the 07 board probably won't have it fixed by the time her wedding comes, and they won't really be legally married on the big day

Yeah this really freaked me out too..i'm going to apply for mine as soon as possible (which is 60 days before the wedding) and hope for the best..

Wow! I wonder why people would do that. Do they then fill out credit cards in your name? I thought they required an ID and a birth certificate to get a marriage license.

that's insane, i'll freak if that happens. i guess it's good to check your credit report every once in awhile to make sure you recognize everything on there. it's not gonna tell you if you're married, but if someone is screwing with your credit cards then at least you'll have a heads up
