Do you have to wait to get the license from the state before you can go to Social Security to change your name?

well, the certificate from the church was here but what about the license? Because you need it for the social security, right?

Re: Already married brides- License
We got our marriage certificate somewhere between 4 and 6 weeks. We went to the NYC office to get the marriage license.

Re: Already married brides- License
about a week after the wedding. Our officient had our witnesses sign it at the rehersal so that she wouldn't have to chase anyone down with all the fuss on the big day. She put it in the mail the day of our wedding.
You will need your marriage license (showing your old and new name) and your drivers license/ID to go to social security office. ALSO NOTE: the paperwork from social security needs your parents info (full name, birthdate, social security #) as well as your own. I'm glad I downloaded/printed the paperwork online beforehand since theres a 3 hour time-diff between my parents and I, and if I went in at 9 am when they first opened. My parents wouldn't have appreciated the 6am wakeup call, I'm sure. :heh:

Ours was in our mailbox waiting for us when we returned from our HM, which was only a few days after our wedding.
