Alterations for wedding dress

Hi all, I would like to know how much everyone paid for the alterations on their wedding dress. I bought my wedding dress several months ago and need to alter it next month. I was quoted about $250 and up. Is that high? I just need the hem done and maybe alittle on the sides(Top). Does anyone have a really good seamstress they went to?Please help.
