I went dress shopping for the first time today with my sister (very exciting stuff). Now I have questions than when I started, lol.
Is a 'hollow to hem' measurement for a gown better than on that goes from the floor up? I was told today that Maggies are measured from the floor.
I LOVE Maggie Sottero dresses. But Lilettes Baldin told me that they're a problem for tiny women (I'm 4'11). If you have to adjust the dress more than six inches, it's an add'l $400 !! Before alterations! Is that just a Lilette's thing or am I looking at those kinds of fees anywhere?

Pat at Lillette's ordered pettite length for me (and I'm 5'6'!). She estimated that the hem will be just right in pettite length- I have shorter legs, longer torso. Who was your consultant?
Don't be afraid to go elsewhere for your dress- get a quote from Phyllis at Bridal Elegance!! I wish I would have done that- woulda saved $200!

Re: Alterations, Maggie dresses, and short brides
i am 5'4 and i wore a maggie dress. what i did order the petite version, so the skirt was made shorter. i ordered my dress through centereach bridal suite. i wasnt aware of any 6 inch rule regarding alterations. mine had to be taking in a lot on the top and some on the bottom, and even then alterations they weren't more than $400! they capped the alterations and there was no mention of any exceptions to the cap. i believe that not all dresses are available with hollow to hem measuements, only particular styles from particular designers. i would suggest callin garound to local bridal shops and getting prices for your dress as well as inquiring about alteration prices. good luck!

MrsR72806 had a maggie and she's tiny (maybe 5'1'?) she had the hollow to hem, im not sure how much she paid you can FM her
I have a private label by g dress - my hollow to hem (they didnt measure the floor, the measure your neck (hollow) to your waist, then your waist to your hem (it was above the floor by an inch or so) i think it was $125 for mine, included in my alteration cap

I love Maggie dresses too. I got mine at Commack Wedding Center. I'm only 5'1' and they ordered the dress in the right length f or me. I paid an extra $100 when I ordered and they measured me with shoes on. This way they cut the dress at the factory so when it came in I wouldn't need the hem done. I have the dress and it looks great. But I'm not getting any alteration done there. I really don't need much. Good Luck

Re: Alterations, Maggie dresses, and short brides
I ordered my maggie this weekend and im 5'2' through Paradise Bridal in Patchogue. What the manager Donna (my consultant) told me is that Maggie will take off 3in for free. They cap their alterations at 200, which might help you with costs. We are going to try different comfy shoes on me to see If I can save $$ that way...if you havent ordered yet go to Paradise and ask for Donna...she was with me FOREVER on Sat and answered all my questions and issues with wanting a Maggie and being short!

Re: Alterations, Maggie dresses, and short brides
I'm 5'4' and ordered my Maggie from Lillette's. I ordered the regular length (not the petite). They told me that the petite length would be if I were 5'4' or under with my heels on.
My alterations were capped under $300 (don't remember the exact amount) and that included shortening the dress, etc. The only things not included are if the dress needed to be made larger (need more fabric) and the bustle.
