Alterations on Lace Dress

Here's the story...I ordered my dress in the petite length and its meant for someone who is 5'6 and I'm 5'2. I told the salon that I would need the dress hemmed and they told me they can't really do it because it's lace (this wasn't an issue before I ordered it). She told me to just wear really high heels. Well I already have my shoes and they are about 2 inches and I really didnt want to wear 4 inch heels.

My suspicions is that they don't know how to hem it. Ladies with lace dresses, have you heard of this?

Re: Alterations on Lace Dress

Alterations by Gina did mine and she basically cut off the bottom and reattached it. It looks great! Mine is not 100% lace though but she did attach lace to lace so it's similar.
I would go to her, her prices are great too.

Re: Alterations on Lace Dress

I have a Maggie dress with lace appliques. I went for the first fitting last week. I was told the dress will not look pretty for the 2nd appointment. The appliques will be lose on the sides (they won't re-attach it until the fit is good).
The bottom piece will be removed. She will then hem it and re-attach the piece.
Son't forget they won't hem the train.

A good seamstress should be able to do this.

One place I went to was able to do this, the cost would have been a little over the standard cap for alterations. My place is only up to the alteration cap.

Here is my dress:

Alterations on Lace Dress

My dress is just a little too long so my salon recommended that I get higher heels, so that's what I did. They told me they could make it shorter (hollow to hem) but it would be VERY expensive for just an inch or two. I bought 4 inch heels with a platform so its really more like 3 inch heels. I'm sure you can find a seamstress to do this, but it will probably be pretty costly.

I'm pretty sure this is the same dress my friend got. She's on this board: hedwards0524. You can ask her what she's doing for alterations.

Re: Alterations on Lace Dress

I bought the SAME dress!! I bought it at Paradise Bridals and ordered a petite as well. I only need about an inch hemmed even with 4 inches heels but they didn't say anything about it being an issue. I didn't ask how they will be doing it, I just assumed they knew what they were doing. Hope it works out for you!

Do you mind sending me a FM on how much they are charging you for this?

Also, a little off topic. Do you know if the dress comes with the sash that is featured on the Maggie website?

This is my dress too and didn't even know it was offered in petite (I'm 5'4). There shouldn't be a problem with alterations, and I think it's crazy that they told you just to wear higher heels.

The dress should come with the sash. It's not my thing, so I need to find a different one.

bschoenhaus told me that her dress came with cap sleeves. Did yours come with it as well? My salon told me that if I wanted them it would be an extra 150

Just called my salon and they said my dress doesn't come with the belt either.... I understand the cap sleeves since I went on Rkbridal and there was $60 fee for it. But I do think the belt is standard...I'm so annoyed

Alterations on Lace Dress

My dress was ordered pre measured (hollow to hem) bc it had scalloped lace at the bottom which could not be hemmed.
