My FI and I live with my parents and will probably keep on doing so after we get married, until he finishes medical school. It doesn't make sense to register for things - the last thing I want is to clutter my parents place. Any other registries?

I don't understand your question. But basically, if you don't register now, you'll never get to do it after the wedding. Just register for the basics... no decorations or anything, just toaster, iron, etc. necessities.

A friend of mine is having the same dilemma she mentioned that you can register for American Express Travelers Checks if you dont want to do the usual store registry. If you plan on moving out sometime in the near future you could always store things somewhere and BB&B lets you return registry items for cash.

We don't need a toaster, iron or any of things because we don't have a place to decorate or store it in. Are there any other types of registries that we can use?

Re: Alternative Registries
You can register for money toward a mortgage or down payment. There are also HM registeries that you can be apart of. You can also register at fortunoffs for stuff & then just return it & keep the merchandise credit & when you actually move out you will have a nice credit to fortunoffs & be able to buy stuff that you want & need. Just a Thought.

I know that there are honeymoon registries. But if you don't register for household stuff now, you will never be able to. You could always rent one of those storage things for a while to keep stuff in.

I think once he gets out of medical school we'll be ok financially in terms of buying all the household stuff - but he doesn't start residency for another 3 years. That's a lot of time to hold on to a toaster or a knife set... We live in a well-furnished guest house right now...
What are some of the mortgage places? If we go through Fortunoff, is it a store credit only? Thanks and keep the advice coming! :)

It is a store credit but it is good forever--so if you decide you really like a couch or outdoor furniture you can use it--it never expires and you don't need any receipts. I also recommend BBB which gives you cash back as long as it is on your registry. You might want to register for a few things--just things you need--maybe flutes or cake knife for the day of. I think that if you do a google search you might find something about th emortgage company--I have heard of it but never looked into it.

Re: Alternative Registries
I have found that you can register for your honeymoon on this site:
What I have noticed is that these sites charge a surcharge on what people give of like 7 or 8%...
People want to give gifts at your shower. You should just register for stuf at BB&B and return it for cash or be honest and say that you don't need anything at this point in time. You could register for a few wedding related items like your cake topper, your cake cutting set, Toasting Flutes, frames, whatever else you want/need so you can at least keep some of it.
I understand not needing anything....FH and 'i have our own place and no need to upgrade anything. Don't even want to really register. Seems like a waste of our time and our guests time since we will end up returning things.....

Re: Alternative Registries
It is very frustrating! I just hate the idea of returning presents - never mind how time consuming the process is. I'm also worried about getting the touchy relative who can't understand why I didn't keep their kitchenaid mixer, even though we have like 5 in the house already and i don't bake! I have sooo many that remember exactly what they gave you and when... Gifts are supposed to be the fun part right?!?!?!

Re: Alternative Registries
I also just foung on the knot.com, you can create a registry where people can give you American Express cheques under create a gift once you start your registry. You can type in the title like 'help with our honeymoon' 'help buy us a house!'
This may work for you!

Re: Alternative Registries
The American Express gift card on The Knot sounds great! You could also register based upon hobbies you both enjoy--I'm kind of sorry we didn't look into Amazon.com. They sell housewares, and we both love to read.
I think some sporting goods, electronic stores have registries also.
