Alternatives to Card Box

So, I know the new norm is the card holder/card box. I personally don't really like the idea of them, and I think my mother would kill me if I had one.

We're not having a huge guest list, just about 85/90 guests (so only about 50 cards, probably). We're planning on just going around to everyone, thanking them for coming, and receiving the cards then. Should I just have a little box under our sweetheart table to drop them in? A little silk bag? Is anyone else not doing the card box and have sme input?

way back in the day when our parents got married, they had a silk card bag that they carried around to the tables to collect the gifts... my FH's aunt is a seamstress and made me and my FH's two cousins who are getting married silk bags with the extra lace from his aunt's wedding dress that was leftover from years ago... I am still having a card box (I bought it before i knew she was making these bags) but I will still use the bag at the wedding and walk around with it just so that she knows i'm still using it... Because you are having a fairly small wedding, you should just buy something like that

My friends did the silk bag. I think its a nice alternative.

Just be careful. The good thing about a box is its noticeable if it 'walks off'. A lot of people put cash in cards and I've heard of employees walking off with cards.

We have a card box that I found on Etsy and love it! I think a silk bag is a classy way especially since there it is a smaller group.

Alternatives to Card Box - Long Island Weddings

I bought a really cute box from Michael's that looks leather coated with a handle on the top. Just going to leave it open and hang a sign that says cards. It kinda goes with my theme. I'll post a pic once I make the sign.

My FMIL is making me a cardbox, otherwise I would've probably gone with a birdcage.

ETA: I think the little silk bag is a good idea, especially if you have a smaller wedding.

I just went to a wedding this past weekend and they did a decorated fish bowl.. it didnt look like a fish bowl... also last year I went to an october wedding and they used a plastic pumpkin maybe do your theme?

ok so this card box post got me thinking of my card box!!! I found one on ebay where the woman will embroider the fabric with names and dates on the fabric wrapping the card box. it is 145 for 5 tiers, fully decorated is this a lot of money?

I also love love love this mailbox idea! it is so cute!
