Am I a being judgemental because I think getting stupidly drunk is ridiculous?
I am the first to admit that I am a big time snob at times.
DH and I went to 2 New Years Eve house parties. We had fun at one, but at the other one everyone was just drunk and incoherent.
I know it is New Years Eve and it is expected, but I just don't see the fun in that any more.
I am 30 DH is 32 and the people we were partying with were late 20's- early thirties.
I was so repulsed by people's behavior. Maybe I am getting old.
Do any of you still get crazy drunk???

Nah, I can't stand the hang overs and after 15 years of getting them I finally learned
I don't care what other people do though. If I am in a good mood I will think the really drunk people are funny, if I am tired they aren't so funny and I go home.
There are certain nights like NYE & St. Patty's day where you really have to expect to see rowdy drunk people and either deal with it or go home.

I have been known to get a little inebriated, but I personally don't enjoy it as much as I did when I was younger. So to an extent I agree with you, I don't intend to get completely trashed, but it has been known to happen on rare occasions. I don't think it's unacceptable for others to be drunk, as long as they are responsible about it (not driving or making a scene, etc.).

I usually can handle drunk people-but there is a point that I no longer have patience. I work in a hospital and on New Years Eve, there were sooooo many teenagers there who had to be brought in via ambulance because they were passed out cold-i mean to the point of barely breathing. But, I was expecting that.
It was the number of grown adults-and I mean well over 30 who were drunk to the same point that shocked me. And the best part was one women who was brought in unresponsive by ambulance, but then all her drunk friends DROVE to the ER to see her! That is just stupidity!
By the end of the night (7am) my patience for drunks was gone!!

Everyone once in a blue moon I will get very drunk. I dont think there is anything wrong with it as long as you are not doing anything to hurt anyone, destroy anything or embarass yourself. Sometimes a little racuous fun is in order.
But doing it on a regular basis or getting so drunk that you are embarassing yourself and others is not cool. Thats for 16 year olds.

I sort of did this year, but not on purpose. I forgot to eat during the day on the 31st and even though I had dinner, I got pretty tipsy from just one apple martini (made with straight vodka) and two champaigne flute servings!!!
I was so embarrassed that DH had to take me home (I could barely walk)...

Let me say this, I see nothing wrong with getting a little buzzed, but to me being embarassingly drunk is so not cool.

My hubby got wasted the other night and I hated it, only because he was at the point of passing out, but I like to get a nice buz on every now and then.
But I can understand what you are saying

Maybe my feelings are somewhat clouded on this issue, but experience is the best teacher. I don't think it's judgemental at all to not want to be around someone when they are wasted to the point of stupidity.
Having grown up with an alcoholic step-father I can tell you that I have no tolerance for people who get drunk. It's one thing to drink to get a 'little buzz' every now and then or if you enjoy the taste of a good wine with dinner but quite another to get stupidly drunk. I guess I just don't see the point in it.
Whether you are a happy drunk or a nasty drunk are you really having a good time? If you are that drunk how would you even know or remember? I wonder sometimes if people who get that drunk realize just how idiotic they look and act. Do they care? Ughhhhh.
Call me judgemental if you want, but I can't stand to be around someone like that either.

Exactly exactly exactly my feelings on the issue. I seriously could not have said it better myself. My father was an alcoholic, so I have NO tolerance for drunk people. None at all. If you want to drink, fine, but once you are buzzed, why keep drinking? So you can make an absolute ass of yourself and not remember it the next day? Whatever, I guess I just don't see the point of being drunk.

My real mother never admited to drinking much less being an alcoholic but she got stupid drunk often enough.
I lost a good friend to a stupid drunk in high school.. the stupid drunk was also a good friend.
I think buzzed is fine. Tipsy is ok. Accidently drunk (too many or forgot to eat) is occasionally forgivable. Being an all out fool and worse doing it on purpose revolts me.
Its their life and their choices and that's fine. But no, I don't like being around them.
You drink you should be responsible for all your actions. Being stupid drunk is not funny to most of the people around and not fun to me. It means I feel responsible to make sure this idiot doesn't drive. I also don't want to clean up puke or have to hear or smell it. Not cool.
If that makes me an old fart, fine. Im an old fart. I put up with the once in a long time drunkiness from good friends only. The rest.. I just leave. Im not their babysitter and I didnt go out to that night to watch over idiots.
So you're not alone.

I can only answer for myself but:
a)Whether you are a happy drunk or a nasty drunk are you really having a good time?
Yes, Im having a great time
b) If you are that drunk how would you even know or remember?
Yes, I remember everything. If you are blacking out, that is not drunk, that is comatose.
c)I wonder sometimes if people who get that drunk realize just how idiotic they look and act.
I think that is part of the fun. On those rare occassions when we dont take ourselves so seriously and kick back a little.
d) Do they care?
There are very few people in the worlds whose opinion of me matters and those people are usually the ones drinking with me.
PS: Obviously doing something really disguisting/embarassing/dangerous/etc.. is beyond getting drunk. Using drinking as an excuse to do the above is just irresponsible no matter what the situation.

Stef just so you know I wasn't addressing you specifically, it was just my general commentary on the subject.
