Maybe they were just trying to help out???

Are they paying for the reception hall?

id be upset, next time you talk to the catering hall, you can tell them to deal only with you and your fiance for decisions, they were probably just trying to help, but sometimes parents dont know better

I think they were just interested in your day....

That would make me mad. Are your parents paying for the wedding? If so, some feel that they have the right to put their 2 cents in since they are paying. If that is the case, I would either discusss it with them and explain your feelings that it is your wedding and while you appreciate all they are doing final decisions should be up to you and FH or start saving some $$ and pay for some things that your parents may have offered to pay for to keep them out of your hair!

yes, they are paying for a good portion of the wedding. But I would have liked to have been consulted on the details concerning my wedding.

It just makes me so mad! I work in special events planning. I've tried to explain that I know what I am doing when it comes to room set-up and dealing with venue staff. They still treat me as if I am twelve years old and my opinion is just silly and childish.

Yeah..I would think they should have consulted you too. But cheer up..you are NOT a horrible bride!

Thanks girls!

It is so hard trying to keep my temper lately. My parents, instead of helping out....Tend to give me more stress to deal with. At times I want to yell at them, that I am a real live grown-up with ideas and valid opinions! FH tries to stay out of it and just remains supportive.

I am sure that they are just trying to help out - that isnt too bad - my aunt and uncle actually booked the hall for my cousin before she even saw the hall - granted the hall was gorgeous but still - They did it bec she was out of state and it would take a while for her to get here and the hall couldnt guarantee the date for that long - they thought they were helping - but boy was my cousin furious!

I don't think it was underhanded. I think they were just curious. Are they paying for the wedding? If so they have every right to go, IMO. If not, I wouldn't be so upset. I am sure that any 'suggestions' they made to the caterer/hall manager can be changed by you and your FH. I wouldn't exclude them from any final decisions (again if you are paying, you should be making the final decisions).

Just perhaps say to your parents that next time either you would like to go first or you can all go together.

I am sure you were just surprised that they went, seeing as it's your wedding and I can totally understand that. I got mad at my father for suggesting where to go for invitations, flowers, limo, etc. But what he was doing was asking all around and was asking for whoever was the cheapest. I don't want cheap, I want quality at a price that is affordable and I told him that. But since most of our stuff is booked, I don't need to worry about him.

As long as they didn't change anything you had already set up, or make any decisions with the catering hall, I wouldn't be upset. That may have been their way of telling you that they checked out the hall to make sure they were up to speed or that you weren't getting 'screwed'.

I think its very generous that they are paying and want to be involved. I agree that I would be upset if my parents did this without letting me know. I think the proper way to handle it would have been for them to let you know they wanted to go and then you could have all gone together. Try to explain to them that you want them involved and that they are a major part of your day, but you would like them to communicate with you more.

I think it's nice that they went - maybe the way they described their visit was misleading - the catering manager may have just been showing them how the room is typically set up. I'm sure they wouldn't finalize and decisions without you...

You are not horrible, maybe they just wanted to make sure everything was going to be perfect for their daughter's big day!!

Re: Am I a horrible bride???

you aren't horrible - you're just like me! And I don't think i'm horrible. I love my parents...I honestly do...but they sometimes get on my nerves with all of the questions and suggestions and questions and arggggggggggggg! I won't even get into the specifics!!!

So i know where you're coming from....i think it's part of the whole wedding planning thing - everyone wants to help and make their suggestions and we all just want to have our day the way we want it.

Not to worry - just dn't get too frustrated...and try to understnad that they just do things because they love you!

Nothing is set in stone, it can always be changed to what you want. I would have totaly gone off on my parents for doing that. Regardless of who is paying, it is still your day. Don't feel too bad about getting snippy, it comes with the territory of being a bride. Everyone expects or should expect you to be on edge.
