am i an awful person if i kill a fish?

i had a fish tank going for years and there is one fish left. he's pretty big...about 6 inches but hes the only one left. i have been wating patiently for him to die (no joke like 3 years at LEAST).
i have stopped cleaning the tank, the filter is not even on. i think teh heater works, im not even sure. the water is brown and gross but he wont die!!!
i really wanna take the tank down but i cant bring myself to kill him. i dont knwo what to do with him. if i take him out of that water and put him in clean water i think he might die cuz he adpated to his enviroment already.

any ideas? anyone want him? lol

I'd call a pet store and ask what to do. Maybe they will even take him.

Ah, yah I wouldn't kill him. Maybe a pet store would take him? If it weren't for my cats, I'd take him. But they will eat him.

yea, if you clean it he'll prob die.. too much oxygen in the water. you'd have to do it in steps. scoop some water out and replace it with fresh water (well aged but not dirty)

i have a bubble bar in there that pumps the air bubbles in but even with teh fresh water it would still be too much and overwhelming right? ive been afraid to clean it cuz i know it'll kill him.

Barb i dont want him anymore because back in the day i used to have this tank looking pristine with lots of fish. then i moved out 4 or so years ago and left the tank at my moms. i slacked on cleaning it cuz i was never there and they all kinda died off. i moved back about a year ago and hes the only one left but i dont want to buy more fish and keep up with the tank so i was waiting for him to die so i can close up the tank and get rid of it. the dude keeps on kicking though

OK, FH said I can't have a fish... but a pet store will take him.

I raised Jack Demseys and Oscars and once they got to be about 6-7 inches and started trying to kill each other I bought them back to the pet store and traded them in for giant Angel Fish.

where did you take them? will any pet store take them? can i just put him in a container and bring him there?

I used to go to Charlie's Tropical Aquarium in West Babylon... Aquarium Adventures in Glen Cove might do it too... I would call and ask first though... this was 4 years ago.
