Am I asking too much?

Am I asking too much?

My FH's sister who lives in Maryland is coming in Long Island this weekend for a family party for her husband's family. She's actually staying at someone's home who lives 10 minutes from us. Don't you think that she should've contacted us to say 'Lets get together, I want to see you two (especially since we're engaged) I would think she'd be curious to see the ring and wish us well). My FH is not very close with her, but they do get along and call each other. I'm just a little hurt, even if we could have met up with her for 10 minutes at Dunkin Donuts. Or do you think I should called her to say 'lets get together'? I guess not everyone can be happy for people like I am. I congratulate strangers when they have happy news.

No you're not asking for too much... welcome to the real world post engagement. You will find alot of miserable, self-centered, demanding people who either don't care a hoot about your wedding, don't know proper decorum or just want to give their opinions or advice on everything you do...

You'll find the ones who don't care are probably the best of the bunch 'cus they will NOT get in your way or judge you...

In your FH's sister's case, I would chalk it up to bad social etiquette. I would say don't even bother calling her, you don't wanna talk to someone who doens't even bother to congratulate you. Next time she has a kid or some other news to share, don't even acknowledge it. :)

Re: Am I asking too much?

Sometimes we have to realize that not everyone is as conscious to make the effort as we may be. If I didn't call my only brother to talk to him or try to make plans, I would probably never see or hear from him. It took me a long time, but I have to remember that he is not me. If I don't make the effort, I don't see him. Maybe since she didn't make the first move, you can call her and try to work something out to see her. I don't think you are asking too much, I just think you shouldn't expect everyone to be like you!!!! Good luck!

No, but personally I would just be the bigger person and say 'We heard you were coming to town and we'd love to see you for a cup of coffee or something, I'm excited to show you my ring' but that's just me. I've learned that no one really cares or is excited like I expected. All my friends call me ot tell me all their life stories but rarely ask about the wedding or anything. That's what the LIW girls are for!!

Some people are just rude. I would ask just to be the bigger person though.
