I keep telling FH that i dont want/need anything for a bday gift and christmas gift and he gets mad!!! I keep telling him i dont want to spend the money and would rather the money go towards our january hall payment... I have told him I will not be buying anything for christmas for him (ok i am a bish...) bc i cant afford it but he wont listen to me and its really bugging me!!!! Im just frustrated and I am not sure if i am being unreasonable or not...

I don't think you are being unreasonable, we decided we aren't exchanging gifts because we rather put the money in the bank so that way we can one day buy a house.

Not at all. FH and I decided on not exchanging for x-mas. My b'day was Monday and we just went out to eat. No gifts. We would rather put it in our wedding account.

i dont think you are being obnoxious. FH and i arent doing gifts until after the wedding....no xmas, birthdays, vday etc. i'd rather save the money for the wedding

I don't think your being obnoxious, i think your being very reasonable and smart. We are doing small gifts this year, nothing over the top, all of the extra money is going towards the wedding and the house.

OMG... We're having the same argument! My birthday is in 2 weeks (11/26) our two year anniversary is 12/17, and Xmas is 12/25 and he keeps asking me what I want, and I tell him not to buy something... and he FREAKS out.
I think I'll make reservations for a nice restaurant, but see my thing is, if he's going to spend money I want to HAVE something tangible.
I don't know... maybe I'll pick out a 20.00 sweater and call it a day.

I agree, I think maybe set a budget for him of 20 bucks or so and that's all he can spend on you. That way, neither of you feel that guilty about it. FH and I are setting a budget for christmas presents. That's the way it's gotta be during these times.

We just had this conversation last night and I told him the same thing. He is not having it though. I really don't need anything and would rather have the money go towards the wedding since it is going to be so freaking expensive. I wish he would get it.

i just went threw this with FH. his birthday is tomorrow & for weeks i have been asking him what he wants. he refuses to answer me & it is so frustrating. he keeps saying he doesn't need or want anything. he told him friends the same thing. so everyone just decided to get him blu-ray movies. one of his friends bought him socks too because he always says how you can never have enough socks. my parents bought him pajamas. i replaced 2 cds that he lost when we were in a car accident a couple of years ago. i think i am going to buy him something for his computer when i save up some money.
its not that your being obnoxious its just that is very frustrating when you say you don't need or want anything. especially to the person you love. your FH obviously wants to buy you something to celebrate your birthday but would like you to tell him what to get so he doesn't buy you something useless. if you want him to save money just have him buy u some pajamas or your favorite shampoo. its stuff you would need to spend money on anyway.
