am i being ridiculous? tahiti question UPDATED

FH finally decided to get his butt into gear today and work on the honeymoon. He wants to go to Tahiti for 7 days.

considering it takes almost a day to get there, am I being a brat in saying that 7 days is not long enough of a stay?

No I definitly agree with you.
In the end I guess it comes down to your budget b/c Tahiti isnt cheap.

I agree. You need to stay longer than 7 days. You're not being a brat at all!!

I know two couples that went to tahiti and they BOTH told me you have to stay at least 10 days. The flight is something like 14 hours.

That is a LOOOOOONG flight- IMO, it's not worth the money to only be there for 7 days.....(and if you count the travel, you're really only there for about 5 or 5 1/2)
You could probably do 2 weeks somewhere else for the price of one week there.

I don't think asking for more than 7 days is too much. You waste two whole days getting ther and back. A bride on BHB mentioned it took her close to 22 hours to get there from NYC. In addition, they are almost a day ahead of us time-wise, so you'll have major jet lag too. Are you planning on island hopping? That's more travel time.

No you arent being a brat but even if you went for a month, you couldnt get your fill of Tahiti so I would still go.

thanks girls! I told FH that I thought it was to short and now he is refusing to do anything for the honeymoon and wants nothing to do with the planning. He's being a real gem

Nope, you're not a brat at all. In fact, that's why we're not going to Tahiti. That was our first choice until we saw that we could do 2 weeks in the Mediterranean for what it would cost us to do 7 nights in Moorea. Add in the flight time and it just wasn't worth it to us.

I have been looking into going to Tahiti as well and I definitely think at least 10 days is good. Yes it is about a 14 hour flight but then going to other islands (if you are doing this) takes about 2 hours. It is a very arduous travel time.

After FH and I had a huge fight with him claiming that I said 'his idea sucked' he went ahead and booked the honeymoon anyway.

we're staying in Tahiti for 4 nights and bora bora for 3 both at Le Meridiens. I'm excited, but not as thrilled as I probably should be. 7 days just doesn't seem like that long of a time to be going half way around the world. It came down to a matter of when the airline had frequent flyer miles available.
I feel like a brat, but I'm just really frustrated he didn't work on this earlier. Plus we're not leaving for 4 days after our honeymoon. the thought of staying at our apartment right after the honeymoon is not very appealling.

maybe i really am turning into a bridezilla

Did you agree that HE would COMPLETELY handle the honeymoon ?????????????
I'd be REALLY annoyed if FH just went ahead and booked something w/o discussing it w/ me !!
- Sorry, don't mean to add fuel to the fire, but that just annoyed me !!

can you stay at an affordable hotel betwen the wedding and the honeymoon - have a nice in between time to catch up on sleep and talk about the wedding before heading out for your exotic vacation?

I had friends who stayed at Le Meridiens a couple years ago and they loved it.

Although you may not be happy about only going for 7 nights, think about it - you're going to Tahiti!! Most people dream about going there and never do!! Even though it's shorter than you wanted - it will be fantastic!!

What if you went to disney for those four days? Or maybe someplace a little less expensive between the wedding and the honeymoon? Poconos? That way even though you're cutting it short with seven days in tahiti you're still getting a longer honeymoon? Maybe you could say to FH 'I LOVED you're idea of Tahiti and as a special gift to you I'm adding four days onto our honeymoon and taking you ......'
