I was just on the phone with one of my bridesmaids and we were talking about another bridesmaid who is in a relationship with a commitment-phobic guy and apparently this girl was talking about how she can't handle going to anymore weddings and how depresing she finds it. I have known her since the 7th grade! and feel alittle sad about her comment. I feel bad that her man hasn't proposed yet, but at the same time I am upset about her comment, am I just being overly sensitive?

hmm...well i think that i would feel the same as you because i am a sensitive person, but i think she probably just meant it in a general sense, not toward your wedding specifically!!! don't take it too personally

I would feel the same way. I sometimes wonder why people say things that are so obviously a diss to you to you. Sorry, I have just been there wy too many times, esp. with one friend in particular.

Don't worry I too would be upset. I think she is just feeling down and really didnt mean it in away to hurt you or take away from your special day!

u shouldnt be upset, it is just her personal opinion and was not directly related to you. It can get depressing going to a lot of weddings if you want to get married and its not happening, that is just natural. i am sure she is still happy for you though.

i think i would be bothered by it a little too BUT you have to see her perspective. FH and I dated for close to 8 years before getting engaged so i can relate to how she feels. You want something so bad and it hasnt happened yet and when you see other people around you getting married - im sorry its depressing, not matter how much we love the person or how we really are happy for them

couldn't have said it better myself!
her feelings about her own relationship status are NOT a reflection on you or your wedding. friends can be excited for you, and unhappy about something in their own life all at the same time.
let it go, and try to be sympathetic and understanding of her feelings.

Re: am I being too sensitive??
Am I reading this wrong.. the BM that was depressed told the BM on the phone with you, not you directly??... then I wouldn't worry about the comment. I don't think it was directed at you... and I don't think that the BM you were on the phone with should have told you what she heard...that's gossip for no good reason.
Your friend sounds like she is having a rough time in her life and is feeling sorry for herself. I don't think it's unreasonable for her to be depressed when she is unmarried and her prospects are slim right now given that she is in love with someone who doesn't want to take the next step. being in someone's wedding or being a guest at yet another wedding is just a little reminder that her dream is not a reality and will it ever be? She did not make the comment to you, so she is not trying to hurt your feelings or ruin your day. KWIM.

I agree...and she told your friend in confidence...not you. If she had said it to you I'd say yes....but she was speaking generally about her own situation and from that angle I dont think shes at fault.

I'm not upset with her, and I would never say anything to her about her comment, but it just upsets me a little bit, thats all. You know its your wedding and you want your friends to be happy for you, not getting depressed over it. And my other BM was not gossiping, I asked how the other girl was doing because I felt like she was avoiding me, and this was the reason why, she was just explaining, not tattling on her. (I feel like I have to defend her now. )

i totally agree! when one of my friends called to tell me she was engaged, i couldnt help but to feel slightly jealous! its not that i wanted to feel that way....i really truly wanted to be 100% happy for her. i wouldnt worry about it too much. its definetely not anything personal towards you!
